Between 2020 and 2025, services remained the primary sector of activity for the employed population aged 12 and over in San Luis Potosí, increasing from 38.3% to 38.6%. By occupation, artisans, construction personnel, and support staff constituted the largest group in 2025, at 28.0%. Commerce rose from 17.7% to 18.5%, according to the National Institute of Statistics and Geography’s (INEGI) 2025 Intercensal Survey (EIC).

In 2025, the services sector registered the largest proportion of the employed population in San Luis Potosí, at 38.6%. This category includes transportation, communication, professional and financial services, social services, government, and others.

The combined sector of mining, manufacturing industries, electricity, and water accounted for 21.1%. Commerce reached 18.5%. Agriculture, livestock, forestry, fishing, and hunting totaled 12.3%. Construction registered 8.3%.

The group of officials, professionals, and technicians reached 21.0%, compared to 21.4% five years prior. Operators of machinery and transport drivers represented 14.1% in 2025; in 2020, they totaled 13.5%.
