DiDi Food Launches Gastronomic Guide: What It Is and How It Will Help Consumers

DiDi Food introduces a new gastronomic guide in its app, empowering users with detailed reviews and photos to make informed food delivery choices.

Choosing what to order for delivery is no longer solely dependent on an attractive photo or menu description. Consumers can now learn about other users’ experiences before making a decision. Aligning with this market trend in the food and beverage sector, DiDi Food has launched a new gastronomic guide within its app, a tool designed to transform reviews into a more valuable resource for discovering restaurants and dishes.

The new feature allows DiDi Food users to specifically rate the food they receive, write reviews, and share photos of their orders. This expands the feedback system already utilized by their customers and consolidates opinions in a dedicated section to simplify the search and selection of gastronomic options.

The gastronomic guide is available to DiDi Food users in over 60 cities across Mexico where the platform operates.

How Does DiDi Food’s New Gastronomic Guide Work?

DiDi Food’s approach recognizes that a consumer-taken photograph and an opinion on a dish can offer different information than what appears on a digital menu.

Therefore,

has incorporated various mechanisms for users to share their experience after receiving an order:

  • Up to 30 Days to Rate: Users have a 30-day period after receiving their order to evaluate their experience.
  • Up to Five-Star Rating: The system allows for an overall star-based rating.
  • Dish-Specific Reviews: Each item in an order can receive an individual evaluation, enabling the identification of which products deliver the best experiences.
  • Real Photos: Consumers can accompany their comments with images of the food they received.
  • Evaluation of Various Aspects: In addition to taste, users can rate elements such as service, packaging, and delivery speed.
  • Points and Levels System: Those who participate with reviews and photos can earn points and advance levels within the platform.

“When ordering food for delivery, people want to know how it truly arrives, not just how it looks on the menu. With dish-specific reviews and photos from other users, every order becomes a recommendation, and every restaurant earns its place based on what it serves,” stated Raúl Bustamante, Head of Communication for DiDi Food Mexico.

What Does This Mean for Restaurants and SMEs?

The growth of digital platforms has reshaped how restaurants reach new customers. For a small business, appearing before consumers who are not yet familiar with their establishment can be as important as maintaining relationships with existing patrons.

In this context, reviews gain commercial value. They function not only as post-purchase feedback but also as an integral part of a restaurant’s digital presence.

DiDi Food hosts approximately 70,000 restaurants on its platform, with about 60% being small and medium-sized enterprises. For this segment, the visibility generated by a delivery platform can represent an additional avenue for customer acquisition.

The experiences of some partner businesses highlight how digital recommendations can be linked to restaurant growth.

1. La Birria de Rivera: From Family Business to Digital Recognition

La Birria de Rivera began as a two-person family business. Over time, the establishment has leveraged delivery sales as a tool to expand its reach.

According to DiDi Food, recommendations and reviews generated by customers purchasing through the app have become a significant part of its operations. Furthermore, digital visibility extends beyond online sales; the recommendations obtained through the app have also helped attract customers to their physical establishment.

This case illustrates how a delivery platform can simultaneously serve as a sales channel, a digital storefront, and a discovery mechanism for a local restaurant.

2. Kuroba: Artisanal Quality as a Differentiator

Kuroba represents another profile within DiDi Food’s gastronomic ecosystem. It is a business specializing in artisanal Japanese cuisine, led by a chef with 25 years of experience.

Their proposition is based on preparing recipes from scratch, without using processed or frozen ingredients. In this instance, reviews provide an opportunity for customers to directly communicate that experience.

According to the company, the review feature has enabled them to build an organic community and strengthen their positioning during their two years of operation.

3. K-BAB Korean: Delivery as Part of the Business Model

K-BAB Korean demonstrates another dimension of the impact digital commerce can have on a restaurant.

Currently, the business has a team of seven people, and approximately 40% of its sales come from home deliveries.

In this case, consumer trust and the digital presence generated through reviews have accompanied the growth of the delivery channel. For restaurants of this nature, their reputation within an app can become a commercial asset: a positive recommendation can encourage a user who is not yet familiar with the establishment to place their first order.

DiDi Food Adds New Tools for Its Partner Restaurants

The gastronomic guide follows the introduction of other tools by DiDi Food aimed at establishments on its platform. During the latter half of the year, the company launched DiMi, an AI-powered assistant designed to simplify restaurant onboarding, and DiDi Terminal, a device focused on order management.

With the integration of reviews, DiDi Food adds a third component to this strategy:

  • DiMi: Facilitates the restaurant onboarding process using artificial intelligence.
  • DiDi Terminal: Aims to improve the management of orders received by establishments.
  • Gastronomic Guide: Helps consumers discover and choose restaurants through experiences shared by other users.

This combination seeks to strengthen different stages of the relationship between restaurants, consumers, and the platform.

What is DiDi Food’s Position in Mexico’s Delivery Market?

DiDi Food operates as a technological intermediary platform connecting consumers, restaurants, and delivery personnel to facilitate food ordering and delivery. Its offering combines technology, artificial intelligence, and logistics with a selection of local and international restaurants.

Currently, the platform is available in Mexico, Colombia, Costa Rica, and Peru. In Mexico, its ecosystem comprises approximately 70,000 restaurants, with a significant participation of small and medium-sized enterprises.

In this regard, the gastronomic guide not only aims to simplify consumer decision-making but is also part of a broader strategy to strengthen the digital ecosystem for restaurants using the platform.
