IMMEX Employment Grows 0.4% Monthly in June, Still Below 2025 Levels

IMMEX program employment saw a 0.4% monthly increase in June, but overall figures remain below the previous year.

The number of employed personnel in establishments with the Manufacturing, Maquiladora, and Export Services Industry (IMMEX) program increased by 0.4% month-over-month in June 2026, according to seasonally adjusted figures published by the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI). By type of establishment, employment in manufacturing units also advanced 0.4% compared to May, while non-manufacturing units—related to agriculture, fishing, trade, and services—showed no variation.

Despite the monthly increase, total employed personnel showed an annual decrease of 0.4%. In manufacturing establishments, the decline was 0.7%, while non-manufacturing establishments observed a 2.6% growth, according to seasonally adjusted figures.

Hours Worked Also Increase

Hours worked in IMMEX establishments grew by 0.2% month-over-month in June. Within manufacturing units, they increased by 0.3%, while in non-manufacturing units, they decreased by 0.1%.

In contrast, average real compensation paid to personnel directly hired by establishments decreased by 0.6% compared to May. The decrease was 0.5% in manufacturing units and 1.1% in non-manufacturing units.

On an annual basis and with seasonally adjusted figures, average real compensation showed a growth of 4.7%, despite the monthly decline.

Over 3.1 Million People Work in IMMEX Establishments

With original figures, during June 2026, total employed personnel in establishments with an IMMEX program reached 3,189,546 individuals, a figure 0.4% lower than that reported in the same month of 2025.

Of this total, 2,818,178 individuals worked in manufacturing establishments and 371,368 in non-manufacturing units.

The entities that concentrated the largest proportion of employed personnel were:

  • Nuevo León: 13.6%
  • Chihuahua: 12.0%
  • Baja California: 11.8%
  • Coahuila: 8.2%
  • Jalisco: 7.6%
  • Tamaulipas: 7.3%

Collectively, these six entities accounted for more than six out of every ten jobs registered within the program.

How Many IMMEX Establishments Operate in Mexico?

In June, there were 6,520 establishments registered in the IMMEX program. Of these, 5,214 engaged in manufacturing activities and 1,306 corresponded to non-manufacturing activities.

Baja California led the number of establishments with 17.3% of the national total, followed by Nuevo León with 13.8%; Chihuahua with 9.3%; Coahuila with 7.1%; Guanajuato and Jalisco, both with 6.4%; and Tamaulipas with 6.2%.

Remunerations Reach 22,840 Pesos Monthly

Average real compensation paid to directly hired personnel stood at 22,840 pesos per person per month in June 2026, a figure 4.6% higher than in the same month of the previous year.

In manufacturing establishments, compensation averaged 22,702 pesos, with an annual increase of 4.3%, while in non-manufacturing establishments, it reached 23,964 pesos, with an increase of 6.5%.

Within manufacturing, wages for blue-collar workers and technicians increased by 7.1% annually, while salaries for administrative employees decreased by 1.6%.

Foreign Market Gains Weight in IMMEX Revenue

Establishments with IMMEX programs generated 697,320 million pesos in revenue during June 2026.

Manufacturing units contributed 89.6% of the total, while non-manufacturing units represented 10.4%.

By destination, 59.9% of revenue came from the foreign market, equivalent to 417,262 million pesos. The domestic market contributed 279,770 million, or 40.1% of the total.

A year earlier, the foreign market represented 57% of revenue, so its participation increased by 2.9 percentage points in twelve months.

Transportation Equipment Concentrates the Most Manufacturing Employment

Among manufacturing subsectors, the manufacturing of transportation equipment registered the highest number of workers, with 930,005 individuals distributed across 1,128 establishments.

This was followed by the manufacturing of computer, communication, measurement equipment, and electronic components, with 416,493 workers, and other manufacturing industries, with 203,777 individuals.

The June data thus shows a moderate monthly recovery in employment and hours worked in the IMMEX industry, while an annual contraction in employed personnel persists, and the weight of the foreign market in the revenue generated by exporting establishments increases.
