CDMX Toll Booths Offering Free Passage Today, June 15th, Due to CNTE Protest

CDMX Toll Booths Offering Free Passage Today, June 15th, Due to CNTE Protest

Members of the CNTE are protesting at toll booths around Mexico City, allowing free passage for motorists.

On the morning of Monday, June 15, 2026, members of the National Coordinating Committee of Education Workers (CNTE) conducted various mobilizations at the main toll booths accessing Mexico City (CDMX), granting free passage to thousands of motorists as part of their protest actions.

From early morning, the Traffic Orientation Center of the Citizen Security Secretariat (SSC) alerted about concentrations of demonstrators at different road points connecting to the capital. The mobilization, planned for around 10:30 AM, is part of the actions by dissenting teachers to demand attention to their labor and educational grievances.

Among the main disruptions and traffic modifications, notable are the toll booths on the Mexico-Cuernavaca highway, as well as the La Viga toll plaza, located on the Naucalpan-Ecatepec urban highway.

Which CDMX Toll Booths Have Free Passage Today, June 15th, Due to CNTE Protest?

Members of the CNTE informed that one of their protest strategies involves temporarily waiving tolls at various plazas, allowing drivers to pass without making the corresponding payment.

As of now, the toll booths reporting free passage are:

  • Tlalpan Toll Booth, on the Mexico-Cuernavaca highway.
  • La Viga Toll Booth, located on the Naucalpan-Ecatepec urban highway.
  • Access lanes heading towards Mexico City on the Mexico-Cuernavaca highway.
  • Incorporation routes towards Ecatepec and Tlalnepantla from the Azcapotzalco area.

Authorities are maintaining constant surveillance at the affected points, while demonstrators continue to conduct informational activities for motorists. According to on-site reports, teachers are using banners, signs, and sound equipment to explain the reasons for the mobilization and disseminate their demands.

CNTE Occupies La Viga Toll Booth on Naucalpan-Ecatepec Highway

One of the most active points during the morning was the La Viga toll plaza, where over 150 CNTE members gathered to partially clear vehicle passage.

The demonstrators arrived at the site aboard a bus and belong to various union sections from across the country, including:

  • Section 35 and 58 from Zacatecas.
  • Section 7 from Chiapas.
  • Section 18 from Michoacán.

Upon arrival, the teachers raised the toll collection arms in two strategic lanes to allow free transit of vehicles. This action primarily benefited drivers coming from Azcapotzalco heading towards Ecatepec, as well as those seeking to merge onto the route towards the municipality of Tlalnepantla.

As of this report’s closing, authorities have not reported damage to infrastructure or vandalism in the area. Similarly, vehicular flow remains constant, although with a visible presence of demonstrators on the toll plaza areas.

Tlalpan Toll Booth Allows Free Transit for Motorists

Another point where the protest is taking place is the Tlalpan toll booth, located on the Mexico-Cuernavaca highway. Around 10:26 AM, a concentration of approximately one hundred CNTE members began, allowing free passage for motorists entering or exiting Mexico City.

During the mobilization, demonstrators announced via loudspeakers that the toll-free transit was part of the protest actions promoted by the organization. “Free passage, it’s a gift from the CNTE,” some participants expressed as vehicles passed through the toll booths without paying.

This measure led to smoother circulation at certain times of the morning; however, authorities recommend staying alert to potential changes in traffic operations due to the continuous presence of demonstrators.

SSC Deploys Surveillance Operation on Mexico-Cuernavaca Highway

In response to the mobilization announced by the CNTE, elements of the Citizen Security Secretariat implemented a preventive operation at various highway access points. On the Mexico-Cuernavaca highway, a police contingent equipped with riot shields was observed, whose primary function is to monitor the protest’s development and prevent incidents affecting user safety.

As of now, law enforcement officers have not intervened to prevent the toll booths from being cleared, nor have any confrontations between demonstrators and authorities been reported.

The SSC stated that it maintains constant communication with operational areas to track the evolution of the mobilizations and ensure safe transit conditions.

Alternative Routes to Avoid Disruptions from Free Toll Passage in CDMX

Although circulation remains open at points where the CNTE is present, authorities recommend taking precautions due to potential complications arising from the demonstrations.

Key recommendations include:

  • Depart with ample time if planning to enter or exit Mexico City.
  • Consult official traffic reports before starting a journey.
  • Stay informed about the development of the mobilizations.
  • Consider alternative routes in case of congestion.

For those traveling through the southern part of the capital, the SSC recommends using the Federal Mexico-Cuernavaca Highway as an alternative. This route can serve as an option in case of any unexpected closures or lane reductions on the toll highway.
