How Xignux Transforms Mario Kart into Social Impact?
Fundación Xignux harnesses gaming for social good, turning a Mario Kart tournament into a fundraising event for nutrition, health, and community welfare in Nuevo León.
In Nuevo León, the alliance between the Xignux Foundation, universities, and companies once again united video games and social responsibility through the fourth annual ‘Gamer with a Cause’ tournament. This initiative transformed the talent of young individuals and employees into economic resources for civil society organizations, directly impacting nutrition, health, and community well-being.
What is ‘Gamer with a Cause’ and What is its Objective?
‘Gamer with a Cause’ operates as a video game tournament with a social purpose. The Xignux Foundation designed it to support projects addressing nutrition, mental health, and well-being, aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, especially Zero Hunger and Good Health and Well-being.
During the kickoff of the final stage, Marcela Garza Herrera —President of the Xignux Foundation— emphasized that the tournament represents more than just a competition. She highlighted that the event reflects the sensibility of young gamers and Xignux employees in supporting those who work for the community.

How was the ‘Gamer with a Cause’ Tournament Organized?
The tournament was structured in two stages. The first consisted of a virtual qualifying phase, held on November 12, 13, and 15, where participants competed remotely. This round yielded 12 finalists: 6 students and 6 ‘energizers.’
Subsequently, the final stage took place in person on November 23. In this phase, each finalist represented a civil society organization, directly linking each race to a specific cause.
Who Were the Winners and Which Organizations Did They Support?
In the student category, the results were as follows:
- 1st Place: Mario Alexis Leal Renagel, a UANL student, donated 100,000 pesos to Comenzar de Nuevo A.C. This organization works on the prevention, education, and treatment of eating disorders and other mental health issues.
- 2nd Place: Diego Anaya Hernández, a student from Tecnológico de Monterrey, donated 40,000 pesos to Hogar Ortigosa A.B.P., an institution that supports girls, boys, and young people through comprehensive values-based education.
Conversely, in the ‘energizer’ category, the results were:
- 1st Place: Glen Gilberto Bedoy Varela, an employee of BYDSA, donated 100,000 pesos to the Mexican Diabetes Association Nuevo León, A.C., which offers medical attention and guidance to low-income individuals living with diabetes and their families.
- 2nd Place: Dante Alejandro Reyna Cortez, an employee of Viakable, donated 40,000 pesos to Vida y Familia de Monterrey A.B.P., an organization focused on providing comprehensive support and assistance to women, girls, and boys in vulnerable situations.
In addition to supporting these organizations, the winners received an economic prize via electronic wallets, which reinforced the incentive to participate and to continue connecting talent with social impact.
