The 2026 FIFA World Cup generated a total economic impact of 65 billion pesos in Mexico and facilitated the creation of 130,900 jobs, reported the Confederation of National Chambers of Commerce, Services, and Tourism (Concanaco Servytur).
According to the business organization, in addition to the impact on tourism activity, the tournament boosted consumption among Mexican households. Between 60% and 65% of families increased their spending by approximately 10% during the World Cup, representing an additional consumption of close to 22 billion pesos, equivalent to an average of 650 pesos per household.
According to Concanaco Servytur’s analysis, this trend allowed the total economic impact to reach businesses, restaurants, markets, shops, and family-owned enterprises in practically all municipalities across the country.
The State of Mexico registered the highest additional consumption, with 1.703.6 billion pesos, followed by Veracruz (753.5 million), Puebla (688 million), Chiapas (557 million), Michoacán (524.2 million), and Guanajuato (491.4 million pesos).
The Confederation highlighted that of the 65 billion pesos generated by the 2026 World Cup, 42.276 billion corresponded to tourism activity. Furthermore, the event facilitated the arrival of 7.8 million national and international travelers, the movement of
at the airports in the host cities, and an average hotel occupancy of 66%, with levels between 85% and 90% during match days.
It also noted that AIFA, Guadalajara, and Monterrey airports increased their air traffic activity by 18%, 11.5%, and 10.3%, respectively, while thousands of visitors extended their stays by up to 16 additional days, amplifying the tournament’s economic impact.
In light of these results, the Confederation reiterated the need to promote a National Sports Tourism Strategy, with a calendar of national and international events that contribute to strengthening domestic consumption and generating new opportunities for SMEs.
