Mexico's GDP Grows 1.4% in the Second Quarter of 2026

The Mexican economy expanded by 1.4% in Q2 2026, driven by primary, secondary, and tertiary economic activities.

Mexico’s economy registered a growth of 1.4 percent in the second quarter of 2026, compared to the previous three months, according to seasonally adjusted Gross Domestic Product (GDP) figures published this Monday by the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI).

On an annual basis, GDP advanced 1.9 percent in real terms during the April-June period, the agency reported in its Quarterly Gross Domestic Product report.

Quarterly growth was supported by all three major economic activity groups. Primary activities, primarily related to agriculture, livestock, fishing, and forestry, increased by 2.4 percent; secondary activities, including industry, mining, and construction, grew by 1.6 percent; while tertiary activities, corresponding to trade and services, advanced by 1.4 percent.

Compared to the second quarter of 2025, primary activities showed the highest growth, with an increase of 4.8 percent. Tertiary activities advanced 2.3 percent and secondary activities increased by 0.9 percent, according to seasonally adjusted series.

With these results, during the January-June 2026 period, GDP grew 1.2 percent compared to the same period last year, using seasonally adjusted figures.

Trade, Mining, and Construction Drive Advancement

INEGI’s original figures show significant differences between sectors during the second quarter.

Wholesale trade stood out with annual growth of 11.3 percent, while mining increased by 4.9 percent and construction advanced by 4.8 percent. Legislative, governmental, and judicial activities grew by 4.3 percent, while health and social assistance services increased by 2.5 percent.

In contrast, manufacturing industries decreased by 0.4 percent annually, while temporary accommodation and food and beverage service activities declined by 2.6 percent. Corporate services also registered a fall of 0.8 percent.

In original figures, total GDP showed annual growth of 2.1 percent during the second quarter, while for the accumulated first six months of the year, the advance was 1.1 percent. These figures differ from the seasonally adjusted ones due to the adjustments made by INEGI to eliminate effects associated with seasonal and calendar factors.

INEGI reported that the next publication of the Quarterly Gross Domestic Product is scheduled for November 23, 2026.
