San Luis Potosí Residents to Save Up to 1,200 Pesos with New Free IMSS-Bienestar Clinics in SLP
New IMSS-Bienestar clinics in San Luis Potosí aim to reduce out-of-pocket medical expenses for uninsured individuals.
The new IMSS-Bienestar clinics in San Luis Potosí could reduce the expenses for individuals currently paying for general medical attention. In this regard, the state government announced that the first 100 facilities will begin operations in the coming weeks. For individuals without social security, the economic benefit represents potential savings, excluding medication, which can be allocated to other family expenses.
First 100 IMSS-Bienestar Clinics to Open in San Luis Potosí
Governor Ricardo Gallardo Cardona announced the opening of the first clinics following a meeting with Daniel Acosta Díaz de León, state coordinator for IMSS-Bienestar. These initial facilities are part of a larger project to establish over 400 medical clinics for the state. The announced scheme includes:
- General practitioners
- Specialists
- Newly hired nursing staff
Furthermore, the governor informed that recruitment drives will be launched to hire approximately 200 nurses, with the objective of strengthening medical units and hospitals. The strategy also involves expanding “Visitando Corazones” (Visiting Hearts) by increasing nursing staff to provide care to households facing transportation challenges.
Savings with New IMSS-Bienestar Clinics Could Reach 1,200 Pesos
The starting point is the free provision of IMSS-Bienestar services. Thus, a consultation received at no cost would eliminate the payment an individual currently makes for private healthcare. For example, according to private medical platforms, a general medicine consultation in San Luis Potosí costs around 600 pesos. A specialist consultation, depending on the field, ranges from 500 to 1,200 pesos.
If an individual requires four general consultations annually, or if it’s a family of four, the total expense would amount to 2,400 pesos. In contrast, consultations at pharmacy clinics typically range from 70 to 100 pesos, meaning an annual saving of 280 to 400 pesos.
| Type of Care | Approximate Cost per Private Consultation | Cost at IMSS-Bienestar | Estimated Savings per Four Consultations |
|---|---|---|---|
| Private General Medicine | $600 | Free | $2,400 |
| Private Specialist | $500 to $1,200 | Free | $2,000 to $4,800 |
| Pharmacy Clinic Consultation | $70 to $100 | Free | $280 to $400 |
It is important to note that this analysis only considers the cost of the consultation. It excludes medications, tests, procedures, transportation, and travel or waiting times, which considerably increase overall expenses.
Who Can Receive Care and When Will the New Clinics Open in San Luis Potosí?
IMSS-Bienestar services will be available to individuals without social security. Official information indicates that they can receive care without prior registration and complete the registration process upon visiting a facility.
Regarding the new clinics in San Luis Potosí, the announcement states their launch within the coming weeks. However, details regarding their specific locations, operating hours, the municipalities they will serve, and the exact opening dates are still pending. These details will soon allow residents to identify which facility is closest to their community and how to request appointments.
