Which Sectors Are Driving Industrial Activity in Mexico in 2026?
Industrial activity in Mexico showed an advance during June 2026, albeit with varied performance across its main sectors. The data corresponds to the IMAI bulletin published on August 11, 2026, and provides insight into the recent behavior of Mexican industry, a key component of national economic activity.
Industrial Activity Growth in June 2026
In June 2026, Industrial Activity in Mexico increased by 0.2% compared to May, in real terms and with seasonally adjusted figures. On an annual comparison, the indicator registered growth of 0.8%, with an index of 102.0 points, using 2018=100 as the base.
The result was accompanied by advances in three of the four IMAI components. Construction grew 3.0% month-over-month, followed by the Generation, transmission, and distribution of electric energy, as well as the supply of water and natural gas, with 0.9%. Mining advanced 0.6%.
In contrast, Manufacturing Industries decreased by 0.6% month-over-month, a trend also reflected in their annual variation, with a decline of 1.2%.
Sectors with Highest Growth in Industrial Activity
Mining presented the highest annual growth among the major industrial sectors, with an advance of 7.0% in June, while Construction increased by 4.2%. The sector for Generation, transmission, distribution, and commercialization of electric energy, in addition to the supply of water and natural gas, advanced 0.7%.
Within construction, civil engineering works stood out with annual growth of 8.9%, surpassing building construction, which advanced 5.2%.
, some subsectors showed positive results: other manufacturing industries grew 6.7%, the manufacturing of computer, communication, measurement, and other electronic equipment increased by 5.8%, while the manufacturing of machinery and equipment advanced 5.5% and the chemical industry by 5.3%.
Thus, the growth of industrial activity in Mexico was primarily supported by Mining and Construction, while manufacturing faced weaker performance. On an accumulated basis between January and June, industrial activity remained unchanged compared to the same period in 2025.
