San Luis Potosí Analyzes Strategies to Strengthen Regional Industry Amidst USMCA
San Luis Potosí is evaluating new strategies to enhance its industrial standing in North America, focusing on USMCA opportunities, nearshoring, and advanced manufacturing.
In a landscape of increasing global competition and supply chain adjustments, San Luis Potosí is analyzing new strategies to fortify its industrial position in North America. With this premise, through the Secretariat of Economic Development (Sedeco), the state participated in a national forum to address opportunities linked to the USMCA, nearshoring, electromobility, and advanced manufacturing.
The meeting was part of the Third Ordinary General Assembly of the Mexican Association of Secretaries of Economic Development (AMSDE), a platform where state representatives reviewed mechanisms to improve regional capabilities and respond to the new demands of international trade. The head of Sedeco, Mario García Valdez, participated in these proceedings as part of the state’s strategy to strengthen investment conditions, enhance supply chains, and adopt tools to meet the requirements of global companies.
San Luis Potosí Seeks to Strengthen Supply Chains Amidst USMCA
One of the primary topics discussed during the assembly was the necessity of improving the integration of local companies into production chains linked to North America. In this context, technological tools were presented for calculating Regional Value Content, indicators designed to identify opportunities for national suppliers and improve the traceability of supply chains. These tools aim to provide greater certainty to international companies regarding compliance with USMCA rules of origin, a crucial element for businesses participating in export markets. For San Luis Potosí, with an industrial economy primarily tied to sectors such as manufacturing, automotive, and logistics, strengthening suppliers represents a key challenge in expanding the benefits derived from regional trade integration.
Nearshoring and Advanced Manufacturing Shape the Industrial Agenda
Furthermore, during the AMSDE meeting, the challenges and opportunities related to nearshoring, a phenomenon that has driven the relocation of production chains to Mexico, were also analyzed. Additionally, topics concerning electromobility and
were reviewed. These sectors require new technical capabilities, specialized infrastructure, and talent to meet the demands of companies. The discussion focused on creating better conditions to attract new investments while simultaneously strengthening existing capabilities within the federal entities.
AMSDE and Aspen Institute Mexico to Foster Specialized Training
As part of the agreements reached, AMSDE and the Aspen Institute Mexico signed a memorandum of understanding to enhance the professionalization of teams responsible for economic development in the states. This agreement will facilitate the incorporation of international best practices in investment project management, particularly in high-technology industries. The training aims to improve institutional capabilities to support the processes of attracting, expanding, and consolidating companies in strategic sectors.
San Luis Potosí Aims to Leverage New Investment Opportunities
The state’s participation in these agreements is part of a strategy to maintain competitive conditions amidst changes in international trade. In addition to strengthening supply chains and institutional preparedness, the entity seeks to capitalize on sectors with growth potential such as advanced manufacturing and industries related to technological transition. The incorporation of new national analysis and collaboration tools will enable the identification of opportunities for local companies and enhance their participation within global supply chains. In an environment marked by trade adjustments in North America, San Luis Potosí is committed to strengthening its productive capabilities and generating conditions that attract investment and expand the participation of its companies in the regional market.
