The cost of a dignified life in Mexico is 16,421 pesos, according to Forbes’ calculations taken from the ENSAFI of INEGI 2024. The differences are notable, as they quadruple; ranging from 7,000 pesos in Chiapas to 29,500 in Mexico City. In the regional neighborhood, Aguascalientes stands out with a cost of a dignified life of 21,000 pesos. This, compared to 11,400 in Zacatecas, 13,500 in San Luis Potosí and Guanajuato; and ending with 18,600 in Jalisco and 18,500 in Querétaro.
The National Council for the Evaluation of Social Development (CONEVAL) announced the update of the Poverty Line by Income (food basket plus non-food basket) and the Extreme Poverty Line by Income (food basket), corresponding to the third edition. This, based on information from the National Consumer Price Index (INPC) published by the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI).
The purpose of the INPC is to measure the evolution of the general price level of goods and services consumed by Mexican households over time. For this, the prices of products that are part of a basket that is defined based on the consumption patterns of the population are tracked.
