Throughout my career leading business initiatives and social impact programs in countries such as the United States, Mexico, Peru, Colombia, France, and Switzerland, I have been able to identify three strategies that allow women not only to stand out, but also to leave a lasting mark in any environment where they find themselves. These are strategies that do not depend on the context, but on the awareness with which they are exercised. They are lights that illuminate the path amidst the shadows that still exist for women in positions of power.
1. Emotional Diplomacy: Leading from Intelligence and Empathy
In an environment marked by the pressure of results and the speed of information, emotional diplomacy becomes a competitive advantage. Women who manage to inspire trust, maintain the cohesion of their teams in the midst of chaos, and make difficult decisions without disconnecting from the human element are the ones who transcend.
This strategy involves developing sophisticated emotional intelligence, which goes far beyond “being empathetic.” It is having the ability to read the emotional climate of an organization, intervene at key moments without being overbearing, and maintain equanimity when emotions are at their limit. I have accompanied leaders who, with a gesture, a timely word, or a well-placed pause, manage to defuse tensions and open conversations that transform. That is emotional diplomacy: the ability to maintain firmness, but without rigidity, and with sensitivity, but without excessive vulnerability. And it is a strategy that not only generates well-being, but also enhances sustainable long-term results.
2. Strategic Adaptability: the Art of Moving between Systems2246
Adapting is not yielding. It is understanding the codes of each system and having the intelligence to navigate it with intention and elegance. Strategic adaptability is the ability to read the context in real-time, adjust language, narrative, and ways of doing things without losing purpose or authenticity.
