Data Centers Drive New Cooling Technology in Mexico

The growth of data centers in Mexico is accelerating the adoption of new climate control technologies. Among these, liquid cooling stands out, a system that directly cools components generating the most heat.

Unlike traditional systems, this technology avoids cooling entire rooms. Instead, it directs cooling to processors and other critical components, which helps reduce energy consumption. Darío Ibargüengoitia González, president of the organizing committee for the ASHRAE Conference Program, explained that this evolution responds to the needs of facilities that operate permanently.

“We already have liquid cooling technologies, which means we go to cool the essential parts of these data centers, the ones dissipating heat, instead of having to cool the entire space,” he stated.

in regions such as the Bajío and central Mexico, where climatic conditions are favorable for this type of infrastructure. The challenge is not limited to maintaining equipment at adequate temperatures. Climate control accounts for approximately 40% of a building’s energy consumption, making the reduction of electricity usage one of the sector’s primary technological fronts.

“The future is not to stop climate control, but to climate control better, using less energy and with less environmental impact,” said Alejandro Guerra Arizpe, general director of AHR EXPO MÉXICO.

Efficiency also extends to indoor air quality. According to specialists, people spend about 90% of their lives inside buildings, which increases the importance of controlling temperature, humidity, and air quality.
