Esentia Energy Systems Commences Expansion in Aguascalientes with $680 Million Investment
Esentia Energy Systems initiates a $680M expansion in Aguascalientes, building a natural gas compression station to boost transport capacity by 660 MMcfd and supply competitive energy to industries in key Mexican regions.
Energy company Esentia Energy Systems formalized the commencement of construction for its new Aguascalientes Compression Station, marking the launch of Phase I of an ambitious strategic Expansion Plan. The comprehensive project, comprising three stages, represents an estimated total investment of $680 million. Situated on a 24,162.38 square meter plot, this new infrastructure primarily aims to strengthen the country’s natural gas transportation capacity. The project is projected to increase the system’s operational capacity by 660 million cubic feet per day (MMcfd).
Strategic Infrastructure for the Bajío Region
Esentia Energy Systems’ station will be a key component for the Villa de Reyes-Aguascalientes-Guadalajara (VAG) system. According to a company statement, this system is critical for meeting the growing energy demand in industrial sectors across:
- Aguascalientes and the Bajío region
- Jalisco
- San Luis Potosí
- Central Mexico

When Will Operations Begin?
The station’s commissioning is anticipated for early 2027. Once completed, the project will facilitate the supply of competitive energy for high-energy-consumption industries, such as:

With over 20 years of experience, Esentia currently operates Mexico’s largest interconnected natural gas system, connecting supply from Waha, Texas, to the nation’s primary industrial regions.
