Guanajuato Accelerates Electromobility with 3.9% of Hybrid and Electric Vehicle Sales in Mexico

Guanajuato accounts for 3.9% of Mexico's hybrid and electric vehicle market share, indicating significant regional progress in electromobility.

The sale of hybrid and electric vehicles is growing in Mexico, with accounting for 3.9% of the accumulated national market. The state registered 4,409 units sold between January and July 2026, according to information from the Mexican Association of the Automotive Industry (AMIA).With this result, Guanajuato ranked among the top ten entities with the highest sales volume of hybrid and electric units. Furthermore, this data confirms the regional advancement of electromobility in a market still concentrated in large metropolitan areas.## National Market Maintains Double-Digit PaceNationally, the sale of hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and electric vehicles reached 17,276 units in July 2026. This figure represented a 61.9% annual growth compared to the same month in 2025. Likewise, these units accounted for 13.2% of total automotive sales during July. In contrast, vehicles of other technologies reduced their monthly share to 86.8%.From January to July 2026, the national market accumulated 112,313 hybrid and electric units. This volume signified a 46.5% increase compared to the same period in 2025.## Mexico City Leads, but Guanajuato is in the Main GroupThe state distribution shows significant concentration in the country’s main urban centers. Mexico City led the accumulated sales with 25,922 units, equivalent to 23.1% nationally.Following were the State of Mexico, with 15,068 units, and Nuevo León, with 11,870 units. Their respective shares were 13.4% and 10.6%.Jalisco occupied the fourth position with 9,948 units, equivalent to 8.9% of the national total. Guanajuato followed, with 4,409 units and a 3.9% share.## Hybrids Dominate Automotive TransitionDuring July, hybrid vehicles led national sales with 11,207 units. This category represented 64.9% of the total electrified vehicles sold in the month.  Plug-in hybrids, on the other hand, totaled 3,232 units, with a monthly share of 18.7%. Additionally, pure electric vehicles reached 2,837 units, equivalent to 16.4%.The strongest dynamism emerged in plug-in hybrids. This category grew by 324.1% in July, increasing from 762 to 3,232 units.## Pure Electric Vehicles Nearly Double Monthly SalesElectric vehicles also accelerated their presence in the Mexican market.In July 2025, 1,442 units were sold, while in July 2026, they reached 2,837 units.Therefore, this category registered an annual variation of 96.7%. Furthermore, its participation within total sales rose from 1.1% to 2.2%.In the annual cumulative, electric vehicles went from 10,889 units in 2025 to 16,605 units in 2026. This advance equates to 52.5% growth between January and July.## Plug-in Hybrids Mark the Year’s Biggest JumpThe AMIA also reveals a notable shift in plug-in hybrids.Between January and July 2025, they totaled 5,799 units, but by 2026, they reached 18,696 units.Thus, this technology registered cumulative growth of 222.4%. Additionally, its share within the total market increased from 0.7% to 2.1%.Meanwhile, traditional hybrids grew from 59,973 to 77,012 units.This result represented a positive year-over-year variation of 28.4% in the accumulated figures.## Electrified Share Already Exceeds 12% of the MarketThe cumulative share of hybrid and electric vehicles reached 12.7% between January and July 2026. In the same period of 2025, this proportion was 9.1%.In absolute terms, the total light vehicle market sold 885,353 units during the first seven months of 2026. Of this total, 112,313 units corresponded to hybrid or electric technologies.Conversely, other technologies totaled 773,040 units in the accumulated period.Although they grew by 0.9%, their participation decreased from 90.9% to 87.3%.## Transition Advances, but Still Requires InfrastructureThe growth in these sales demonstrates a gradual shift in Mexican consumer preferences.However, market consolidation requires more charging infrastructure, financing, and model availability.Furthermore, traditional hybrids still dominate the transition due to their lower dependence on external infrastructure.###The entry appears first on Líder Empresarial.
