Is There a Fuel Shortage in Jalisco?: Pemex Responds

Reports of limited fuel supply in Jalisco and other states raise concerns, but Pemex assures normal operations nationwide.

The possibility of a fuel shortage in Jalisco has raised alarms among motorists, gasoline station owners, and energy sector operators. Over the past few days, various service stations in the Guadalajara Metropolitan Area have reported limited supplies of Magna and Premium gasoline, while users have reported long queues and out-of-service pumps. However, Petróleos Mexicanos (Pemex)

has assured that there is no fuel shortage in the country and that supply operations are normal in all regions of Mexico.

This situation arises amidst an international context marked by volatility in energy markets, as well as geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, factors that have impacted the international price of oil and fuels.

Business Owners Alerted to Low Fuel Availability in Jalisco and Other States

According to representatives from the gasoline sector, media outlets, and social media, the disruptions are not only occurring in Jalisco but also in other states such as:

  • Aguascalientes
  • Zacatecas
  • Chihuahua
  • Nuevo León
  • Querétaro
  • Hidalgo
  • State of Mexico

Business owners indicated that the problem is related to low inventory levels at storage and distribution terminals, a situation that began to be reflected at service stations in various municipalities.

Furthermore, distributors noted that emergency redistribution measures were implemented to meet regional demand. These include:

  • Transfer of Diesel from Zapopan to Lagos de Moreno
  • Fuel shipments from the El Castillo plant to Manzanillo
  • Logistics adjustments to maintain minimum inventories at priority stations

Despite these efforts, there has been no official report confirming a widespread shortage to date.

Pemex Denies Shortage and Urges Avoidance of Panic Buying

Regarding journalistic reports and social media speculation about a supposed fuel shortage in some regions of the country, #Pemex informs that it has sufficient product to supply our customers and that our supply operates regularly.— Petróleos Mexicanos (@Pemex) May 26, 2026

In response to the circulating reports on social media and in some media outlets, Petróleos Mexicanos issued a statement categorically rejecting the existence of a gasoline or diesel shortage in the country.

According to the state-owned productive company, the supply of Magna gasoline, Premium gasoline, and Diesel continues to operate regularly at all service stations with active contracts. The oil company also emphasized that it has sufficient product to meet national demand and urged citizens to avoid panic buying, as this behavior can lead to temporary saturation at some stations. In parallel, the governmental project Infodemia also debunked reports of a supposed fuel shortage in various states of the country.

As of now, federal authorities maintain that there are no structural issues affecting the national energy supply chain.

What is the Cost of Fuel in Jalisco in 2026?

While uncertainty persists among consumers, fuel prices continue to show adjustments in various metropolitan areas of the country. According to data from the Energy Regulatory Commission (CRE), these are the current average prices registered in Guadalajara:

  • Magna Gasoline: 23.87 pesos per liter
  • Premium Gasoline: 28.77 pesos per liter
  • Diesel: 26.95 pesos per liter

The increase in prices also reflects the international scenario and the measures implemented to contain sharp variations in the cost of Magna and Diesel.
