Household Consumption in Mexico Projected to Continue Growth in Early 2026
Mexico's private consumption is projected for annual growth in early 2026, despite slight monthly dips, according to INEGI's timely estimates.
Private consumption in Mexico—one of the economy’s primary drivers—is projected to maintain its annual growth at the beginning of 2026, albeit with a slight monthly decline in January, according to timely estimates from the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI).
The Timely Indicator of Private Consumption (IOCP) anticipates that household consumption will grow 4.7% annually in January and 3.5% in February. However, in monthly terms, a decrease of 0.6% in January and a slight increase of 0.1% in February are estimated, based on seasonally adjusted figures.
This indicator provides an advance estimate of the Monthly Indicator of Private Consumption (IMCP), which is published approximately nine weeks after the reference month. The IOCP allows for a first approximation just two weeks later and a more precise second estimate six weeks later.
According to the institute, the private consumption index level—with a 2018=100 base—is projected to stand at 113.7 points in January and 113.8 points in February 2026.
Private consumption is a key component of domestic demand and reflects household expenditure on goods and services. Therefore, its behavior allows for the anticipation of short-term economic activity trends.
