Direct Madrid–Querétaro Flight: A New Route Boosting Regional Competitiveness
The Madrid–Querétaro flight opens economic opportunities for the entire region. This direct connection facilitates commercial exchange, international tourism, and the attraction of investments from the European market. Furthermore, this route strengthens the integration of the Bajío region with Europe. In doing so, Querétaro expands its reach as a strategic destination for business, tourism, and international events.
Air Operations and Technical Specifications of the Service
The route is offered as a regular flight utilizing Airbus A350-900 aircraft. This model is notable for its capacity, efficiency, and intercontinental range. Tickets are available on the official Iberojet website. They can also be purchased through travel agencies in Spain and Mexico. Additionally, marketing and sales are conducted via tour operators Catai, Travelplan, and Special Tours. These companies are part of the Barceló Group’s travel division. Iberojet launched this direct connection on December 20th. The route is exclusively operated by the airline, which belongs to the Ávoris group. Starting the last week of May 2026, the service will feature two weekly flights. This expansion coincides with the preparations for the FIFA World Cup to be held in Mexico, the United States, and Canada.
Querétaro Strengthens Its Economic Ties with Spain
Governor Mauricio Kuri González highlighted that the opening of this route solidifies Querétaro’s position as a destination with international prominence. He also underscored Spain’s significance as the state’s second-largest trade partner. Ambassador Juan Duarte Cuadrado, for his part, emphasized Querétaro’s role in a highly visible global context. He also highlighted its active participation in the upcoming International Tourism Fair in Madrid, scheduled for next January, where Mexico will be the guest country. Mario Domínguez Vázquez, Commercial Director of Iberojet, noted that the launch of the direct Madrid–Querétaro flight is the result of several months of coordinated effort. Negotiations began in January of this year with initial discussions between the State Government and the airline. This joint effort enabled the establishment of a strategic route. Consequently, Querétaro strengthens its international air connectivity and enhances its positioning as a competitive destination in the European market.
