Jalisco Tourism Secretariat Awards Distinctions to Tourism Businesses in Puerto Vallarta: What Certifications Were Granted?
Jalisco Tourism Secretariat awarded 60 distinctions to tourism businesses in Puerto Vallarta, Mascota, and La Huerta, recognizing their commitment to quality, hygiene, and business management to boost competitiveness.
Tourism in Puerto Vallarta is strengthening its national and international standing by elevating service quality standards. Based on this premise, the Jalisco Tourism Secretariat (ST Jalisco) awarded 60 distinctions to businesses in the sector across the municipalities of Puerto Vallarta, Mascota, and La Huerta, recognizing their commitment to continuous improvement, hygiene, and business management. The ceremony was led by Michelle Fridman Hirsch, head of the state agency, who emphasized that these certifications validate internal processes and directly impact visitor confidence.
In total, the following were granted:
- 50 ‘Distintivo H’ Certifications
- 8 ‘Punto Limpio’ Seals
- 2 ‘Distintivo M’ Certifications
These recognitions accredit the implementation of best practices in hygienic food handling, cleaning protocols, and quality-focused business management models.
Tourism Certifications: A Key Pillar for Puerto Vallarta’s Competitiveness
The awarding of these distinctions is not an isolated event but rather part of a comprehensive strategy to strengthen the tourism competitiveness of
Travelers increasingly value health safety and service quality, making these certifications a distinct competitive advantage.
During her address, Michelle Fridman emphasized that coordinated work among the government, private sector, and municipalities is fundamental to achieving higher standards: “We will continue to do this as a team, because we must work in this way with businesses, the municipality, and the various state agencies (…) We want Vallarta to be in the best possible position.”
Furthermore, she emphasized the importance of continuous training in key areas for the tourism sector:
- Hygienic food handling
- Sanitation protocols
- Customer service
- Languages
- First aid
- Sustainability
“So that the service provided is of the highest quality (…) and people continue to return to this community, to their second home,” she added. In this regard, the distinctions not only represent recognition but also an ongoing commitment to improvement that directly impacts the visitor experience.
Tourism in Puerto Vallarta: Economic Engine and Strategic Bet
For his part, the municipal president of Puerto Vallarta, Luis Ernesto Munguía González, highlighted that tourism is the main economic engine of the destination and the livelihood for thousands of families. The mayor emphasized that these certifications strengthen the perception of safety and quality in the port: “This event is not merely a ceremony, but a celebration of a firm commitment to the quality, safety, and regulations that underpin the growth and competitiveness of our tourist destination.”
Furthermore, he reiterated that the municipal government promotes public policies aimed at strengthening the sector:
- Strategic tourism promotion
- Infrastructure improvement
- Professionalization of human capital
- Promotion of quality certifications
“Certifications are fundamental pillars for positioning Puerto Vallarta as a safe, reliable destination, prepared to welcome an increasing number of visitors,” he pointed out.
‘Distintivo H’: Guarantee of Hygiene and Visitor Confidence
One of the most significant recognitions awarded during the event was the ‘Distintivo H,’ granted to 50 establishments, primarily hotels, for complying with strict standards in the hygienic handling of food and beverages. This distinction, endorsed by tourism and health authorities, ensures that establishments adhere to processes that minimize health risks and elevate service quality.
Among the recognized hotels in Puerto Vallarta are:
- Casa Velas Boutique
- Velas Vallarta
- Las Palmas by the Sea
- Fiesta Inn Puerto Vallarta
- One Puerto Vallarta
- Sheraton Buganvilias Resort & Convention Center
Additionally, ‘Punto Limpio’ Seals were awarded to various businesses, focused on reinforcing best practices in cleaning and disinfection within tourist facilities. Notably, Velas Vallarta received multiple certifications in this category.
Jalisco Strengthens Its Tourism Strategy with Certifications
At the state level, the results reflect a sustained policy regarding tourism quality. During 2025 and the first months of 2026, Jalisco has issued:
- 335 ‘Distintivo H’ certifications
- 73 ‘Punto Limpio’ Seals
- 43 ‘Distintivo M’ certifications
Furthermore, the Jalisco Tourism Secretariat reiterated that it will continue to support more businesses in their certification processes, understanding that these distinctions are key tools to increase tourist confidence and enhance the destination’s reputation, in addition to elevating service quality and boosting international competitiveness.
