Jalisco's Technology Exports Double in 2025
Jalisco's technology exports reached $32.5 billion in 2025, marking an 81% growth. The electronics sector's 102.3% increase drove this surge, positioning Jalisco as a top exporter in Mexico.
The dynamism of technology marked an unprecedented milestone for Jalisco’s foreign trade during 2025. Recent data from the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI) confirm that the state’s exports reached 32,546.4 million dollars, a
. This surge consolidates the region as the main driver of advanced manufacturing outside the border zone.
What Drove Jalisco’s Technology Boom?
The exponential growth is almost exclusively due to the manufacturing of computer equipment and electronic components. Technical analysis by ITESO reveals that this subsector doubled its export value in the annual cumulative total. The electronics industry increased from 10,640.9 million dollars (MDD) in 2024 to 21,528 million dollars in 2025.
This figure represents an increase of 102.3%. This variation accounts for most of the state’s commercial rebound. According to the report, the concentration in electronics deepened structurally. Guillermo del Río Ochoa, president of Index Occidente, highlighted the magnitude of these operations: “For the first time, we exceeded 10 billion dollars in a single quarter. The truth is, it has been a very, very significant growth,” noted the industrial leader.
Export Performance by Key Sectors
Although technology leads the table, other sectors showed heterogeneous performance. The plastic and rubber industry achieved positive progress. However, traditional sectors faced significant contractions due to market volatility.
The most relevant cumulative percentage variations for the third quarter of 2025 are presented below: -Electronics Industry: +102.3% -Plastic and Rubber Industry: +26.2% -Agriculture: +10.4% -Food Industry: +6.3% -Beverages and Tobacco: -5.5% -Chemical Industry: -12.4%
Jalisco’s total accumulated international sales amounted to 32,546.4 million dollars. This represents an overall growth of 52.3% compared to the previous year.
Jalisco in the National Export Landscape
The state positioned itself as the fifth largest exporting state in Mexico. Jalisco contributed 9.1% of the total national goods sent abroad. It surpassed the country’s average performance thanks to its specialization in high-value manufacturing.
| Main Subsector | Cumulative 2024 (MDD) | Cumulative 2025 (MDD) | % Variation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Electronics and Computing | 10,640.9 | 21,528.0 | 102.3% |
| Transportation Equipment | 3,013.6 | 3,065.3 | 1.7% |
| Food Industry | 925.5 | 984.1 | 6.3% |
| State Total | 21,364.9 | 32,546.4 | 52.3% |
ITESO warns that this trend has clear advantages. It positions the state in global value chains linked to the U.S. market. However, there is a high dependence on external corporate decisions.
Impact on Employment and the Local Economy
Despite the success in foreign shipments, the multiplier effect on the local economy presents challenges. The analysis suggests that the export “boom” does not necessarily translate into a widespread boost for other productive sectors.
Extreme specialization in technology could limit diversification into areas with greater generation of
. The 2025 figures indicate stagnation in sectors not linked to high-tech manufacturing. Therefore, experts suggest strengthening local linkages so that global success benefits the domestic market.
