Mazda in Guanajuato Reaches 2 Million Units
Mazda's Guanajuato plant achieves a milestone of 2 million units produced, solidifying its strategic role in global manufacturing and Mexico's automotive sector.
Mazda in Guanajuato celebrated a significant milestone in its industrial trajectory by reaching the production of its 2 millionth unit at the plant located in Salamanca. The announcement was made by Miguel Barbeyto, President of Mazda de México, who underscored the importance of this achievement as part of the brand’s consolidation history in the country and the strategic role the Guanajuato complex has acquired within its global operations. The commemorative unit was a Mazda CX-30 Signature, manufactured in Mexico and delivered to a buyer in Mexico City, an event that highlights the integration of the national market with the production capacity installed in Guanajuato. This accomplishment occurs just over a decade after the plant began operations, having produced its first vehicle on January 6, 2014, and less than six years after reaching its first million units in January 2020.
Salamanca, a Key Automotive Hub for Mazda in Mexico
The Mazda plant in Salamanca, Guanajuato, has become a strategic hub within the brand’s global manufacturing network. This complex produces models that have maintained high demand in both national and international markets, including the Mazda2 sedan, Mazda2 hatchback, Mazda3 sedan, Mazda CX-3, and Mazda CX-30. During 2025, the plant recorded a total production of 174,524 vehicles, solidifying its position as one of the most significant automotive complexes in the country. Of the total manufactured, 49.3% was allocated for domestic consumption, while the remainder was exported to over 30 countries, reflecting the international reach of the operation established in Guanajuato.
Sustained Production by Mazda in Guanajuato
The expansion rate of Mazda in Guanajuato is notable for its accelerated production. In just over ten years, the plant progressed from its first unit in 2014 to the achievement of two million vehicles assembled in Salamanca, an indicator that demonstrates the state’s integration into global automotive manufacturing supply chains. This growth also reinforces Guanajuato’s role as one of the country’s main industrial hubs, particularly in the automotive sector, where original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), auto parts suppliers, logistics, and specialized talent converge.
Historic Sales Consolidate Mexico as a Strategic Market
Mazda’s industrial performance in Guanajuato during 2025 was complemented by record results in the domestic market. Mazda de México sold 107,004 vehicles, the highest figure in its history in the country. This volume represented a 7.2% growth compared to 2024. With this outcome, Mexico solidified its position as the third most important market for Mazda globally, trailing only the United States and Japan. Furthermore, the brand achieved the sixth national position in sales, with a market share of 7.1%, strengthening its presence in a highly competitive environment.
Customer Satisfaction as a Positioning Indicator
Mazda’s growth in Mexico was also reflected in its after-sales service performance. In 2025, the brand secured third place in the J.D. Power Mexico Customer Service Satisfaction Index. On a scale of 1,000 points, Mazda achieved 902 points, with outstanding evaluations in service quality, facilities, advisor attentiveness, and delivery process. This indicator is based on the experience of vehicle owners aged one to three years, representing a significant factor in terms of consumer loyalty and trust.
Mazda in Guanajuato: A Symbol of Manufacturing and Competitiveness
The achievement of the 2 millionth unit produced in Salamanca, announced by Miguel Barbeyto, confirms Mazda’s significance in Guanajuato as a central player in Mexico’s automotive industry. With an annual production exceeding 174,000 vehicles, global exports, record sales, and high levels of customer satisfaction, Mazda’s operations in the state are positioned as a representative case of efficient manufacturing, international competitiveness, and industrial consolidation in the Bajío region.
