Japanese automaker Nissan unveiled two new electrified SUV concepts at Auto China 2026, a strategic move to accelerate its electric and hybrid vehicle offensive in one of the world’s most competitive markets. During the event in Beijing, the firm introduced an urban plug-in hybrid SUV, targeting young customers, and the Terrano Plug-in Hybrid, marking the return of an iconic nameplate with a focus on both urban and off-road driving. Both models are part of the company’s strategy to strengthen its presence in China and position the country as a hub for innovation and global export.
“China is not only a highly competitive market but also a key source of innovation,” stated Iván Espinosa, emphasizing the country’s strategic role in the brand’s technological development. Nissan announced that the production versions of these SUVs would arrive in approximately one year, as part of a broader plan that includes the launch of three additional electrified models in China by 2027. The strategy is not limited to the local market. The company anticipates that some of these vehicles, such as the N7 and the Frontier Pro plug-in hybrid, will be exported to regions such as
, Asia, and the Middle East. Since 2025, the company has accelerated its electrified portfolio in China with models such as the N7, N6, and NX8, combining local technology, development speed, and global quality standards. With this commitment, Nissan aims to achieve one million units sold annually in China by 2030, with exports serving as a key pillar of growth.
