CONCANACO SERVYTUR acknowledges the legitimacy of protests but urges that road blockades should not harm the public or economic activity.
Within the framework of the
, held in Aguascalientes, the president of CONCANACO SERVYTUR, Octavio de la Torre de Estefano, spoke out regarding the road blockades reported in various states. The business leader acknowledged the legitimacy of the grievances but warned that these should not translate into direct harm to the population or productive activity. “The rights of some cannot supersede the rights of others,” he asserted. He explained that road blockades across the country generate immediate impacts on daily mobility and the operations of the sector he represents. “The impact affects families who cannot travel; the sick, who cannot access care; workers, who cannot carry out their activities; and business owners, who lack access to their inventories,” he stated. Furthermore, the Confederation’s president detailed that, at present, blockades or concentrations were reported in the State of Mexico, Hidalgo, Querétaro, San Luis Potosí, Zacatecas, and Chihuahua. In the case of Aguascalientes, he mentioned the presence of protestors in San Francisco de los Romo without affecting traffic; however, other roads are already reported closed by farmers. He also informed that CONCANACO SERVYTUR maintains communication with federal authorities to monitor the situation. “We trust that the Federal Government will address the genuine demands of those mobilizing,” he said, while reiterating the importance of these demonstrations not affecting third parties. De la Torre also explained why the Confederation had not issued a prior statement. “We did not release any statement because there was talk of other types of blockades… and we were in the process of confirming the information with the Federal Secretariat of Government,” he concluded.
