Guanajuato Household Spending Snapshot: Families Allocate $16,500 Monthly, INEGI Reveals

in Guanajuato, according to the latest survey by INEGI analyzing family finances. With the aim of providing a precise overview of consumption, the agency presented data from the 2025 National Household Spending Survey (ENG). According to the published figures, the management of domestic resources reflects key budgetary adjustments. Likewise, the state’s socioeconomic dynamism necessitates constant outlays for essential goods. Therefore, families must prioritize the daily purchase of basic necessities.

Guanajuato on the National Map: How Does its Quarterly Spending Compare?

The territorial report from the survey places Guanajuato with an average quarterly household expenditure of 49,582 pesos, equivalent to 16,527 pesos per month. This amount positions the state below the national average, which was established at 57,930 pesos per quarter.

When contrasting the country’s extremes, Mexico City leads the list with an average quarterly expenditure of 84,564 pesos. In the Bajío region, Querétaro reports 81,685 pesos, significantly surpassing the local average. At the opposite end, Chiapas reports the lowest spending with 38,203 pesos quarterly. Consequently, Guanajuato occupies an intermediate position within the country’s socioeconomic landscape.

Food and Mobility Absorb the Family Budget

Nationally, the average quarterly current spending for households reached 74,404 pesos, which equates to 24,801 pesos monthly.

However, the urban-rural divide significantly influences the finances of each region. In urban settings, monthly expenditures average 20,995 pesos, while in rural areas, it stands at 13,488 pesos.

For its part, the acquisition of food, beverages, and tobacco represents 34.9% of the total monetary expenditure. Consequently, families allocate 20,238 pesos every three months solely to this primary category. Within the food basket, meat consumption leads priorities with an average of 3,652 pesos quarterly. Subsequently, cereals add 2,509 pesos in the same period.

The transportation and communications category ranks second nationally with an average of 11,588 pesos quarterly. Additionally, travel by bus, van, or minibus costs 692 pesos each quarter. Therefore, mobility strongly impacts daily expenditures.

Nutrients and Basic Services on the Spending Scale

Analyzing consumption quality, the study shows that 38.2% of food spending is allocated to animal protein. In contrast, products classified as sources of vitamins and minerals represent only 12.9% of the budget.

Furthermore, housing services impose a constant burden on household monthly income. Electricity supply leads the list with an average quarterly outlay of 843 pesos. In parallel, water service payments average 472 pesos.

Finally, digital connectivity has solidified as an indispensable necessity for most residents. Users allocate an average of 346 pesos to triple-play packages. Likewise, spending on mobile phone plans reaches 410 pesos quarterly.
