Sheinbaum in Querétaro: Train Projected for Completion in 2027

Claudia Sheinbaum’s visit to Querétaro has established a new timeline for one of the infrastructure projects expected to significantly impact connectivity in central Mexico. The President estimated that the Mexico-Querétaro Train will be completed in the second half of 2027. The announcement was made during the “Honesty and Results” event on September 18th, as part of her national accountability tour. Addressing state and federal authorities, the executive presented a review of her administration’s actions and updated the rail project schedule.

Sheinbaum in Querétaro: When Will the Train Be Ready?

Sheinbaum indicated that passenger service could be available starting in the second half of 2027. This date was presented as an estimate, contingent upon the progress of construction.

“The train will be operational starting—I hope—in the second half of 2027,” she stated during her remarks. She also suggested that a portion of the project might be completed before the entire route is finished.

The route will feature the following specifications:

226 kilometers of double track for passenger service.
Design speeds between 160 and 200 kilometers per hour.
Estimated travel time of approximately two hours.
Infrastructure separate from the tracks used by freight trains.
Connection between Buenavista station and the Querétaro state capital.

The service aims to revive passenger rail transport between two cities that maintain constant ties in labor, business, education, and services.

What Stations Will the Mexico-Querétaro Train Have?

The planned route will connect Mexico City with Querétaro with stops in three states. The announced infrastructure includes stations at:

Buenavista, Mexico City.
Huehuetoca, State of Mexico.
Tula, Hidalgo.
Santiago de Querétaro.

At Buenavista, passengers will be able to connect with the Suburbano Train, Metro, Metrobús, and Ecobici. For the Querétaro metropolitan area, connections to Qrobús and local transportation services are planned. This integration will be crucial for the project’s daily utility.
