Mexico-Queretaro Train: No New Closures Expected on Bernardo Quintana Avenue

The Mexico-Queretaro train construction will not cause new traffic disruptions on Bernardo Quintana Avenue for the next nine days. Following coordination meetings with the Mexican Army, the Municipal Government announced that the next phase of federal works can proceed with the current traffic management plan.

Querétaro Municipal President, Felifer Macías, conducted a site visit to assess traffic conditions and the effectiveness of the implemented traffic control measures on this avenue.

According to information provided by municipal authorities, the current construction phase does not require expanding road closures or reducing the number of available lanes. Therefore, the traffic scheme will remain unchanged during the specified period.

Mexico-Queretaro Train Construction Traffic Plan to Maintain Five Open Lanes

Traffic flow will continue with three lanes available from north to south and two lanes from south to north. This lane distribution aims to preserve traffic in both directions while the construction progresses.

Although no immediate new modifications are anticipated, municipal authorities are maintaining close monitoring of the area. The traffic management plan includes the presence of 170 mobility assistants. This personnel provides guidance to motorists, oversees lane merging, and assists in managing traffic congestion points. Additionally, flashing traffic signals and intermittent closures have been implemented on certain roadways.

Bernardo Quintana Avenue Maintains Traffic Flow During Construction

Bernardo Quintana Avenue is a primary mobility corridor in the Querétaro metropolitan area. Daily commuters traveling to workplaces, educational institutions, commercial zones, and residential areas utilize this avenue. Consequently, modifications resulting from the construction can impact traffic on adjacent avenues and streets. However, the Municipality of Querétaro reported that the public’s use of alternative routes and adjustments to travel times have helped alleviate some of the traffic pressure. The traffic management plan also benefits from the coordination between the State Government and the Municipality of Querétaro.

Felifer Macías acknowledged the cooperation of motorists who have adjusted their travel routes during the initial weeks of the construction. He also highlighted that traffic flow has been maintained despite the scale of the construction and existing restrictions.

Mexico-Queretaro Train: Virtual Classes and Remote Work Reduce Commuting

Another measure implemented to reduce vehicle volume on Bernardo Quintana Avenue involves the adoption of virtual classes at educational institutions located within the affected area. Similarly, some companies have adopted remote work arrangements. These initiatives aim to decrease travel during school and work rush hours.

The municipal government indicated that these measures have received support from Governor Mauricio Kuri González and the State Secretary of Education, Martha Elena Soto Obregón. Educational institutions and private companies have also joined the strategy.

Authorities Advise Planning Travel in Advance

The Ministry of Mobility recommended consulting navigation applications such as Google Maps and Waze before commencing any journey. These tools help identify traffic congestion, temporary closures, and routes with shorter travel times.

Furthermore, the head of the ministry, Pedro Ángeles, urged drivers to observe the “one by one” merging rule at intersections. This practice aims to streamline vehicle entry and prevent blockages that affect main lanes. Drivers are also advised to reduce speed when traveling through the construction zone. The presence of workers, machinery, temporary signage, and mobility assistants requires heightened attention from drivers.

Despite the traffic management plan remaining unchanged for nine days, traffic conditions may vary throughout the day. Therefore, the progress of the federal construction project will maintain the current conditions on Bernardo Quintana Avenue for the upcoming days, while authorities prepare for potential adjustments in later stages.
