Aguascalientes Kicks Off 2026 with Over 1,600 Formal Jobs Generated in January

Aguascalientes commences 2026 with robust job creation, adding over 1,600 formal positions in January and reaching a new employment record. The region's labor market shows resilience and stability.

The labor market in Aguascalientes has commenced the year with a clear signal of resilience, contrasting with the usual uncertainty that often characterizes the first month of the calendar year. According to the latest figures from the Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare (STPS), based on IMSS records, the state successfully created 1,626 new formal jobs during January 2026, elevating the total registry of insured workers to a historic high of 363,411 positions. This progress is significant, as it not only breaks with the inertia of the previous year’s close—when the figure stood at 361,785 positions in December 2025—but also consolidates a

trajectory of growth that has been consistent over the last decade. To put this into perspective, the state has added nearly 35,000 jobs since the levels recorded in 2021, reflecting a structural recovery that appears to have moved past the fluctuations of the health crisis.

The Foundation of Stability: Predominance of Permanent Employment

Furthermore, a detailed analysis of employment composition reveals that the robustness of the local market does not rely on temporary positions. Of the more than 363,000 registered workers, 92.7% (337,111 individuals) hold permanent positions, while only 7.2% (26,300) are under temporary schemes. Consequently, this proportion suggests that companies established in the region are prioritizing talent retention and contractual stability, key factors for strengthening domestic consumption.

In the same vein, an annual comparison reveals a clear qualitative leap: The start of 2026 surpasses the 362,407 jobs recorded in January 2025, but the difference becomes stark when looking at the recent past: from the 335,280 positions that existed pre-pandemic (January 2020), the state has maintained sustained growth year after year. Consequently, this report clarifies that Aguascalientes has not only managed to exceed critical past levels but has also established a new baseline for growth.
