Chedraui, one of the country’s leading self-service retail chains, has announced its ambitious expansion plan for 2026, with projections to surpass the number of stores opened by the group in previous years. This figure will also exceed its record of 142 openings registered in 2025, reflecting the company’s robust growth strategy despite the economic and social challenges of the environment. The investment will primarily focus on a specific brand format, a proximity store model that has proven successful and highly demanded in the Mexican market.

Thus, Chedraui will open a total of 147 new self-service stores, according to the 2026 Results Guide, presented on January 12 at the Mexican Stock Exchange (BMV). The expansion will be led by its renowned “Supercito” format, with 130 new stores under this model during 2026, maintaining the same number of openings anticipated in the 2025 projections.

What’s Next Financially for Chedraui?

Despite challenges stemming from an uncertain economic environment, Chedraui maintains positive expectations for 2026. Arturo Vasconcelos, Deputy CEO of Chedraui, emphasized that the company anticipates better performance during the first quarter of this year compared to 2025, projecting total sales growth of between 8.0% and 9.0%, surpassing the 7.5% recorded in the previous year.

However, rising labor costs, partly due to the increase in the minimum wage, and more restrictive immigration policies in the United States remain significant challenges for the company, especially during the first half of the year. Despite these factors, the expansion and improved profitability are expected to contribute to the chain’s sustained growth, reinforcing its competitive position in the Mexican market. With the plan to open 147 new stores, the company is positioning itself to capitalize on opportunities in the self-service market and further consolidate its role as a key player in the sector.
