Diesel Price Outcome After Meeting Between Fuel Retailers and Sheinbaum
Fuel retailers met with President Sheinbaum to discuss a diesel price reduction, proposing 28 pesos per liter, with further meetings planned.
On the afternoon of Tuesday, April 21,
held a meeting at the National Palace with President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, aiming to seek a reduction in the national diesel price.
At the conclusion of the meeting, sector representatives addressed media inquiries, indicating that, at the President’s request, it was proposed to set the diesel price at 28 pesos per liter. However, this is an agreement in progress, as both parties will continue working sessions.
It was reported that a new meeting will take place next Tuesday, April 28, to follow up on the proposals and evaluate potential adjustments.
Hours later, during her morning press conference, the President explained that the dialogue with fuel retailers included various requests from the sector, among them the reduction of commissions on card payments and electronic vouchers.
“They are requesting several issues that I will address, for example, that commissions be lowered when paying with a card… that commissions for electronic voucher companies be lowered… it’s not by decree; several institutions must participate,” she noted.
Sheinbaum added that the central agreement was to collaborate in favor of household economies, and therefore, work will be done jointly with the Ministry of Finance to advance on the proposed issues.
According to the platform PetroIntelligence, the average price of diesel in Mexico on April 22, 2026, is 28.34 pesos per liter, a figure close to the target proposed after the meeting.
