Electromobility: Why It's Key for Automotive Investment in San Luis Potosí?
San Luis Potosí secured 761.8M USD in automotive investment in 2025, ranking second nationally. Electromobility projects and a robust supply chain are key drivers for its industrial growth and future nearshoring.
In the accumulated period from January to December 2025, San Luis Potosí achieved 761.8 million dollars in direct automotive investment, a figure that positioned it second nationally, trailing only Nuevo León, largely driven by the supply chain and electromobility projects. Throughout the year, these investments generated 5,988 jobs and added 180,854 square meters of industrial construction, demonstrating a tangible impact on both employment and productive infrastructure. Furthermore, the combination of auto parts, strategic materials, and electrical systems allowed San Luis Potosí to strengthen its position within more sophisticated value chains, aligned with industrial regionalization processes and higher technological content.
Automotive Investment in San Luis Potosí Represented 18% of National Total
The state’s performance must be analyzed within a national context of adjustment. During 2025, Mexico registered 204 automotive investments, with a total amount of 9,263.89 million dollars, which implied a contraction of -61.38% compared to 2024. In this scenario, San Luis Potosí accounted for 18.2% of the national total, equivalent to the 761.8 million dollars captured. This reflects the robustness of its supplier ecosystem and its capacity to attract investments aligned with energy efficiency, electrification, and the strengthening of the T-MEC.

In this regard, a key component of the state’s industrial performance was electromobility. During 2025, San Luis Potosí recorded 16 automotive investment projects, four of which were directly linked to this segment. These projects also reflected the state’s adaptation to new technological trends in the sector, particularly in:
- Manufacturing of electrical components
- Advanced lighting systems
- Platforms for electric vehicles
Electromobility Projects Boosting San Luis Potosí’s Automotive Industry
Moreover, major companies are driving electromobility in San Luis Potosí:
It continues as the state’s anchor project. During 2025, it advanced investments and restructurings to prepare for the production of electric vehicles and batteries for the NEUE KLASSE platform, scheduled to begin in 2027.
- SL MEX, a Korean-capital company, announced an investment of 45 million dollars for the manufacturing of headlamp modules for electric vehicles, strengthening the supply chain for automakers like BMW and General Motors.
Additionally, the state registered an increase in the establishment of specialized suppliers for electrical components, including battery systems and powertrains. These projects were among the year’s top 10 investment announcements and consolidated an ecosystem with more than 260 automotive companies.
Looking ahead to 2026, the combination of these factors positions San Luis Potosí favorably to capitalize on the next phase of automotive nearshoring in North America.
