Mexican SMEs are Revolutionizing AI, Undetected by the Competition
Mexican SMEs are driving AI innovation through the PotencIA MX accelerator, demonstrating significant advancements and business potential.
The inaugural PotencIA MX Accelerator, a collaboration between incMTY Corporate Innovation from Tecnológico de Monterrey and Meta, with support from the Ministry of Economy and SECIHTI, concluded its 2026 Demo Day, spotlighting SME Swartz and startup Ardea Global Logistics as leaders among the participating cohort.
The program, which aimed to bridge the gap between the technical potential of artificial intelligence and its commercial viability, enabled 30 organizations to integrate Meta’s open-source language models into their operations, optimizing internal processes and creating new business opportunities in Mexico.
“Technology-driven entrepreneurship and AI are strategic priorities for our digital industrial policy. Fostering a robust ecosystem in these sectors is key to the country’s competitiveness,” stated Mtro. Diego Flores, Head of the Electronic and Digital Industry Sector at the Ministry of Economy. For his part, Dr. Marco Moreno, General Director of Development, Technology Transfer, and Innovation at SECIHTI, emphasized that PotencIA MX serves as a collaborative model between government, academia, and industry to strengthen innovation within SMEs and startups.
Program Development
The program commenced in October 2025 with a technical diagnosis and filtering of projects based on open architectures. In November, an intensive Bootcamp was conducted, featuring practical workshops, pitch training, and AI ethics, followed by an acceleration period that culminated in May 2026 with personalized advisory services for integrating AI models into processes such as CRM, supply chain automation, and predictive analytics.
The 2026 Demo Day evaluated participating organizations based on criteria including execution capacity, scalability, impact, and pitch quality. According to Luis Francisco López, Corporate Innovation Leader at incMTY, “PotencIA MX represents the outcome of months of learning, collaboration, and collective building, driving high-impact solutions with advanced technological tools.”
Winners and Benefits
- Swartz, specializing in flexible accounting services, was awarded the Softlanding Program, which includes a roadmap for market entry and practical AI implementation to accelerate their expansion.
- Ardea Global Logistics, focused on logistics and supply chain, will participate in an International Business Development Mission in Silicon Valley, aimed at forging technological alliances, raising capital, and gaining exposure to Deep Tech trends.
Program Impact
Participating companies advanced in technological maturity, moving from prototypes to commercial and operational validation, achieving operational efficiency improvements of up to 80% and reducing cycles that previously took weeks to mere days. Several organizations reported recurring revenue, secured strategic contracts, and attracted investments totaling up to $2.5 million USD.
Through this initiative, PotencIA MX confirms that the future of business development in Mexico hinges on local capacity to create, adapt, and scale open AI solutions, moving beyond passive adoption of external technology.
The entry appears first on Líder Empresarial.
