Mexico City Forecasts Hotel Occupancy Nearing 85% During 2026 World Cup
Mexico City's hotel sector projects near 85% occupancy during the 2026 World Cup, with full capacity expected on match days. Ample lodging and strong coordination are reported.
The hotel sector in Mexico City anticipates an average hotel occupancy nearing 85% during the month when the
is held, with peaks that could approach full capacity on match days in the capital.
According to the Mexico City Hotel Association, there is sufficient lodging capacity and coordination between authorities and the private sector to meet the tourist demand that the 2026 World Cup will generate in the nation’s capital.
This figure aligns with the estimates from the CONCANACO SERVYTUR, an organization that emphasized expectations of virtually full occupancy due to the sporting events.
Furthermore, the Mexico City Ministry of Tourism highlighted that the city currently boasts over 63,000 rooms distributed across nearly 800 hotels, in addition to supplementary lodging options in the metropolitan area, which will enable it to meet the demand generated by the 2026 World Cup.
This forecast is benchmarked against the behavior observed during the FIFA World Cup France 1998, a reference utilized by the sector to gauge the potential tourist impact of a global-scale event.
Additionally, the Mexico City Ministry of Tourism reported that tourism intelligence indicators show a positive trend in interest for traveling to host cities. According to the cited study, travel searches in the period leading up to the World Cup increased by over 35%.
“The World Cup is a global event where certainty is built with data and coordination. We endorse the institutional communication from the hotel sector and the Mexico City Ministry of Tourism: there is lodging capacity, and the 2026 World Cup is on track,” stated Octavio de la Torre de Stéffano, President of CONCANACO SERVYTUR.
