Volaris introduces a new direct route connecting Querétaro and Oaxaca, enhancing air connectivity between Mexico's Bajío region and the south.
Querétaro-Oaxaca Route Begins Operations with Volaris
The Querétaro-Oaxaca route has commenced operations as a new direct connection operated by Volaris, aiming to strengthen air connectivity between the Bajío region and the southern part of the country. This connection adds to the growth of
from Querétaro and Oaxaca, two markets with complementary profiles. On one hand, a state in central Mexico with industrial and business dynamism; on the other, one of Mexico’s most significant tourist and cultural destinations.
Querétaro-Oaxaca Route with Four Weekly Frequencies
The new Querétaro-Oaxaca route will operate with four weekly frequencies, scheduled for Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. According to Sectur Oaxaca, the estimated flight time will be around one hour, significantly reducing travel times compared to ground transportation alternatives.
Regarding schedules, the connection includes departures from Querétaro at 10:14 AM and from Oaxaca at 12:03 PM. This schedule is designed to accommodate both leisure travel and business trips, facilitating short itineraries and weekend getaways.
Furthermore, for the second half of 2026, each of the new routes announced by Oaxaca anticipates 124 frequencies and 23,064 new available seats. Consequently, this operation represents a concrete expansion of air capacity for the tourism and regional mobility market.
Strategic Connection Between Tourism and Business
The opening of the route responds to a growing demand for connectivity between regions with high economic, tourist, and cultural activity. Querétaro has solidified its position as an industrial, logistical, and business hub in the Bajío region, while Oaxaca maintains a strong standing as a national and international destination due to its gastronomy, heritage, traditions, and cultural offerings.
Therefore, the new direct flight can facilitate corporate travel, weekend getaways, family mobility, and tourist visits. Likewise, the route opens an opportunity for service providers, hotels, restaurants, travel agencies, and tour operators to expand their market into the central part of the country.
According to Volaris, the new routes from Querétaro are part of a strategy to offer more direct connections from cities experiencing tourism and business growth, without relying on more saturated airports or additional ground transfers.
Oaxaca Expands its National Air Offering
The Querétaro-Oaxaca route is part of a package of new connections announced by the Government of Oaxaca and Volaris. In addition to this link, the Puebla-Huatulco route has also been introduced, thereby strengthening the state’s presence in strategic central Mexican markets.
Sectur Oaxaca has indicated that these connections aim to boost tourist influx, consolidate the state within the national market, and generate greater economic benefits for the tourism sector. In this regard, air connectivity remains a key factor in enhancing the competitiveness of Oaxacan destinations.
Volaris’s growth in Oaxaca also provides context to this expansion. Since 2008, the year the airline began operations in the state, it has transported over 8,159,000 passengers via 11 routes connecting Oaxaca City with national destinations and Los Angeles, USA.
