San Luis Potosí Exports to Expand to the Caribbean: Products to be Shipped

San Luis Potosí boosts agro-industrial exports to Trinidad and Tobago including coffee, piloncillo, tomatoes, chilies, onions, rum and mezcal, ensuring fair trade without intermediaries.

Exports from San Luis Potosí’s agricultural sector are expanding their international presence. Thanks to the impetus from state authorities, agro-industrial product exports will commence to Trinidad and Tobago in the Caribbean. Through the Secretariats of Economic Development (Sedeco) and Agricultural Development and Hydraulic Resources (Sedarh), a trade agreement was solidified with Firestone Artisan Market Company Limited, in coordination with the Embassy of Trinidad and Tobago in Mexico.

This agreement will enable agricultural products from San Luis Potosí to reach a new Caribbean destination through a direct export model without intermediaries. It will also guarantee fair payment to producers and the opportunity to position their brands internationally.

Among the selected products for this initial phase —all produced or cultivated in the state’s Central, Altiplano, and Huasteca regions— are:

Each of these represents a key sector within San Luis Potosí’s agro-industrial value chain, which has experienced sustained growth in recent years.

Coffee and piloncillo (unrefined whole cane sugar) are notable for their artisanal quality; tomatoes, chili peppers, and onions contribute to the state’s agricultural leadership; while rum and mezcal are part of the growing premium beverage sector with regional designation.

According to the heads of Sedeco and Sedarh, Salvador González Martínez and Jorge Luis Díaz Salinas, respectively, negotiations were conducted directly with local producers, under a model that prioritizes transparency, fair trade, and the promotion of the rural economy.

The agreement with Trinidad and Tobago was finalized after various working sessions that included exporters, business chambers, and federal authorities.

This alliance consolidates San Luis Potosí as a new player in the Caribbean agro-industrial markets, expanding its portfolio of destinations and strengthening the brand “Hecho en San Luis Potosí” (Made in San Luis Potosí).

Furthermore, the initiative promotes the economic and export diversification of San Luis Potosí, benefiting farmers, ranchers, and artisanal producers, who will see this effort reflected in increased income and local job creation.

With this step, San Luis Potosí reaffirms its role as a strategic hub for Mexican agro-food trade, projecting its productive capacity towards new international horizons.
