Vehicle Production and Export in Mexico: How is BMW Performing in 2025?
An analysis of Mexico's vehicle production and export trends for 2025, highlighting key manufacturers and BMW's performance.
According to the Administrative Registry of the Automotive Industry of Light Vehicles (RAIAVL), during the January to October 2025 period, Mexico produced a total of 3,389,424 light vehicle units, representing a 0.7% decrease compared to the same period in 2024. Of the units produced, 77.1% were light trucks, while the remainder comprised automobiles. The leading vehicle brands in terms of production during this period were:
- General Motors: 742,806 units
: 572,928 units - Ford Motor: 347,985 units
- Stellantis: 327,282 units
- Volkswagen: 284,582 units
Light Vehicle Exports: Focus on International Markets
During the same period, 2,881,399 units were exported, a 1.5% decrease compared to 2024. The United States remained the primary destination for these exports, accounting for 78.7% of the total exported volume. The leading brands in terms of exports were:
- General Motors: 687,807 units
- Nissan: 384,017 units
- Ford Motor: 332,040 units
- Stellantis: 295,484 units
- Volkswagen: 283,397 units
BMW in San Luis Potosí: Production and Export Continue to Decline
According to RAIAVL, BMW’s San Luis Potosí plant assembled 82,681 units during the January to October 2025 period, representing a 4% decrease compared to the same period in 2024.
Despite the decline in year-over-year production, October 2025, however, showed a positive trend for BMW, with 11,800 units produced, a 13.7% increase compared to September of the same year.
In terms of exports, BMW has experienced a 10.3% decline in 2025, with 74,416 units exported through October.
Despite the decreases in production and exports, BMW Mexico experienced growth in its domestic sales. Between January and October 2025, 15,588 units were sold, marking a 12.2% increase compared to the same period in 2024.
However, October sales registered a slight decrease of 5.1%, with 1,585 units sold, compared to September 2024 sales.
