Nuevo León's tourism sector strengthens its commitment to sustainability and food waste reduction, recognizing companies leading the charge in responsible practices.
The Nuevo León Secretariat of Tourism reinforced its commitment to sustainability, food security, and food waste reduction by participating in the Second National Zero Hunger Forum 2025, where the tourism sector positioned itself as a key ally of the Nuevo León Zero Hunger Strategy.
How Does the Second National Zero Hunger Forum 2025 Connect Sustainability with Business?
The event, organized by the Secretariat of Equality and Inclusion, took place at the Raúl Rangel Frías Library. It brought together more than 360 people, including state authorities, representatives from the BAMX Network, universities, donors, civil organizations, and citizens interested in promoting sustainable solutions.
The forum presented the progress of the Nuevo León Zero Hunger Strategy, as well as the results of the Impact Measurement Study. It also showcased the Diagnosis and Baseline on Food Loss and Waste, a key input for designing more responsible public policies and business practices.
Additionally, throughout the day, specialists from academic institutions, civil organizations, and productive sectors shared experiences and collaboration models.

How Is the Tourism Sector Integrated into the Zero Hunger Agenda in Nuevo León?
The State Secretariat of Tourism participated in the panel “Social Responsibility in the Hotel, Restaurant, and Convention Center Industry”, where Mtra. Perla Liliana Saavedra —Director of Sustainable Tourism Policy Planning— presented concrete actions from the sector.
Saavedra outlined collaboration models aimed at reducing food waste in hotels, restaurants, and convention centers, in addition to strengthening more sustainable operational practices. These strategies include improved consumption planning, inventory optimization, and responsible utilization of inputs.
Furthermore, Maricarmen Martínez Villarreal —State Secretary of Tourism— highlighted the sector’s role, noting that Nuevo León’s tourism sector is demonstrating that sustainability is also built through daily practices.
Maricarmen also recognized companies that already adopt social responsibility criteria and work towards a more responsible value chain.
