Aguascalientes Construction Sector Plummets 16.5% in October 2025; Entity Lags Behind Querétaro and Guanajuato's 'Boom'

Aguascalientes' construction industry faces a critical year-end, with a 16.5% decline in October 2025, lagging behind neighboring states' growth.

The construction industry in Aguascalientes faces a critical close to 2025. According to the National Survey of Construction Companies (ENEC), published today by INEGI, the production value generated by the

recorded an annual decline of 16.5% during October of this year. This setback is more significant than the national average. While construction across Mexico experienced a 13.6% year-over-year contraction, the decrease in Aguascalientes was nearly three percentage points sharper, positioning the state in a vulnerable state amid the sector’s widespread slowdown.

The Bajío: A Region of Contrasts

The most alarming data for Aguascalientes’ economy emerges when compared to its regional neighbors. While Aguascalientes reports double-digit negative figures, other states in the Bajío and Northern regions managed to maintain growth, demonstrating a disconnect in regional investment dynamics: -Querétaro: Registered a growth of 15.8%, leading the dynamism in the area. -Guanajuato: Increased its production value by 8.7%. -San Luis Potosí: Reported an increase of 8.1%. -Jalisco: Managed to remain in positive territory with a marginal advance of 0.5%. -Nuevo León: The industrial giant of the north grew by 7.1%.

On the negative side, the only neighboring state accompanying Aguascalientes in the decline is Zacatecas, though with a less pronounced decrease of 7.3%.

Impact on Employment and Hours Worked?

The contraction in public and private construction has directly impacted the workforce. Occupied personnel in Aguascalientes’ construction companies decreased by 12.3% year-over-year in October, a figure that doubles the national employment decline in the sector, which stood at 6.6%. Despite the reduction in production and personnel, average real wages in the state showed slight resilience, with an annual increase of 2.0%, although this rise falls below the national average of 3.2%.
