Aguascalientes' Exports to Venezuela: A Technological Niche Market

Aguascalientes maintains a highly specialized technological trade link with Venezuela, primarily exporting liquid and gas filtration equipment, distinct from broader national exports.

Amidst the geopolitical landscape surrounding Venezuela, commercial data reveals that Aguascalientes maintains a specific and highly specialized technological business link with the South American nation. Diverging from raw materials, the entity has positioned itself as a provider of industrial technology.

According to figures from Data México, a platform by Mexico’s Ministry of Economy, Aguascalientes exported products valued at approximately 794 thousand dollars to Venezuela during the annual close of 2024. Although this figure is modest compared to the country’s major exporters, it is notable for its concentration in a single manufacturing sector.

An analysis of Aguascalientes’ export basket reveals an almost total reliance on one product. 95% of Aguascalientes’ sales to Venezuela consist of “apparatus for filtering or purifying liquids or gases,” an item that generated revenues of 755 thousand dollars.

The remainder of the commercial pie (the other 5%) is linked to the state’s automotive specialization:

  • Parts for internal combustion engines: 25,700 dollars.
  • Axles and cranks: 8,460 dollars.

This specialization trend has remained consistent in the short term. As of October 2025, Aguascalientes reported exports totaling 128 thousand dollars to Venezuela, comprising 100% filtration apparatus, thus solidifying this market niche.

The National Context: Corn vs. Technology

While Aguascalientes focuses on manufacturing,

with Venezuela presents a different picture at the federal level.

Mexico’s flagship product exported to Venezuela is Corn, accounting for 17.5% of all national exports (39.7 million dollars in 2024).

Other significant products in the national balance include malt extract (5.5%), bottle caps and stoppers (5.39%), and chemical preparations (5.27%).

On the map of major suppliers, Aguascalientes appears as a smaller-scale player. The states leading exports to Venezuela are Mexico City (87.7 MDD), State of Mexico (56.5 MDD), and Nuevo León (30 MDD).

However, the persistence of Aguascalientes’ exports demonstrates that, even in volatile markets, the local precision industry finds buyers.
