Nissan Accelerates Its Expansion: Production Line Installation Continues
Nissan expands its manufacturing footprint in Aguascalientes by relocating operations from CIVAC, installing new production lines, and facilitating a skilled workforce transition from COMPAS.
Aguascalientes’ automotive ecosystem—spearheaded by Nissan—is undergoing a phase of strategic reconfiguration and expansion following the commencement of the transfer of operations from the CIVAC plant in Morelos to the state. This transition not only signifies an increase in manufacturing volume for the state but also the integration of new production platforms. In this regard,
, head of the Secretariat of Economic Development, Science and Technology (SEDECYT), confirmed that the installation of machinery from Morelos has advanced with such rapidity that the local complex is already operating the initial phases of prototyping. “Remarkably, they are already in the process of installing different operational lines. We conducted a tour, and they are very advanced, with some prototypes already being produced,” detailed the secretary. This technical development positions the state as the central hub for Nissan’s consolidation in Mexico, projecting that the first comprehensive units under this scheme will exit the assembly line between late this year and early 2027. In parallel with Nissan’s expansion involving the CIVAC lines, the local industry is managing the transition following the announcement of COMPAS’s cessation of operations. The plant, which will conclude its production on May 31st, has initiated a gradual reduction of shifts, which SEDECYT is monitoring to ensure an orderly transition of personnel to other expanding projects. “We are aware that they have been in discussions with potential investors interested in that [COMPAS] plant. It is a business decision for which we are very attentive,” revealed Garza de Vega. The state official noted that to protect human capital, the state government has implemented a linkage plan aimed at reassigning specialized COMPAS workers to the new lines Nissan is installing, ensuring that technical expertise remains within the state.
