Nissan Develops e-4ORCE, an Electrified All-Wheel Drive Control System

Nissan introduces e-4ORCE, an advanced electrified all-wheel drive system enhancing vehicle stability, precision, and comfort through intelligent motor and brake control.

Nissan has developed e-4ORCE, an electrified all-wheel drive control system that synchronizes two electric motors and the braking system to manage power distribution between both axles, the Japanese automaker announced. According to

the technology was designed to provide enhanced stability, precision, and comfort while driving by continuously adjusting traction based on driver inputs and road conditions. The system incorporates a front and a rear electric motor, and it monitors variables such as wheel speed, acceleration, braking, and steering angle. Using this information, it calculates the grip level of each wheel and adjusts tractive force and regenerative braking, the company explained. Nissan stated that e-4ORCE can perform up to 10,000 adjustments per second to maximize tire grip. Furthermore, it indicated that during development testing, the system responded to driver inputs up to three times faster than a human blink. The company added that during acceleration, the technology modifies the torque distribution between the front and rear axles when it detects a loss of traction. In corners, it coordinates the operation of the electric motors with the braking system to adjust the vehicle’s trajectory, while during deceleration, it distributes regenerative braking between both electric motors. Rodrigo Centeno, President and General Director of Nissan Mexicana and INFINITI, affirmed that e-4ORCE integrates the company’s expertise in electrification and all-wheel drive control.

“The best technology is that which works intuitively and turns complex processes into a simple experience for people. Nissan e-4ORCE combines our expertise in electrification and all-wheel drive control to deliver something that can be perceived on every journey: greater stability, precision, and comfort,” he stated. In Mexico, Nissan reported that e-4ORCE is available in the Nissan X-Trail e-POWER, a model that combines this system with e-POWER electrified propulsion technology.
