According to the Results Report from the Administrative Registry of the Automotive Industry of Light Vehicles (RAIAVL), published by INEGI, 131,491 new light vehicles were sold in Mexico in January 2026. This figure represents an annual growth of 8.71% compared to the same month in 2025. Within this context of market expansion, Nissan stood out as the primary growth driver.
During January 2026, the Japanese automaker reported sales of 24,695 light vehicles, signifying a 21.8% year-over-year increase, well above the industry’s average growth. Thanks to this performance, Nissan solidified its position as the undisputed leader in the Mexican market, achieving an 18.78% market share—meaning nearly one in five new vehicles sold in the country belonged to the brand. This result confirms that the firm grew at a rate more than double that of the overall market (21.8% versus 8.71%).
The remainder of the top 5 best-selling brands included General Motors, which sold 16,339 units with an annual growth of 3.9%; Toyota, with 11,669 units and a 6.3% increase; Volkswagen, which sold 11,195 units but registered a decrease of 7.8%; and Kia, with 9,032 units, representing a 5% annual growth.
