Celaya Progresses in Strategic Rail Infrastructure

Celaya's southern rail bypass is 80% complete, enhancing urban mobility, safety, and economic competitiveness by relocating freight train traffic.

The

reports an estimated 80% progress in the construction of the southern rail bypass, known as ‘ferroférico’, a logistics infrastructure project aimed at removing freight train traffic from the urban area. The project is in its final stage, and it is anticipated that by mid-year, Canadian Pacific Kansas City freight trains will cease circulating through the city, a situation that previously occurred with Ferromex. This project represents a strategic intervention to improve urban mobility, road safety, logistical efficiency, and economic competitiveness in one of the most relevant industrial zones of the Bajío region.

What Will Be the Impact of the Rail Bypass in Celaya?

The rail project has reached approximately 80% completion and involves reconfiguring rail traffic outside the urban footprint. Removing freight train passage will reduce accident risks, improve vehicular flow, and free up urban spaces currently constrained by rail crossings.

Furthermore, the project has been driven by coordination among the Federal Government, State Government, Municipal Government, and the company Canadian Pacific Kansas City, which has accelerated infrastructure development. The completion of the bypass is also linked to the construction of a passenger train in the region, due to the need to reorganize existing rail lines.

Rail Infrastructure and Regional Economic Competitiveness

According to municipal authorities, the relocation of freight trains from the urban area is projected as a significant factor for local economic development. Improvements in mobility, reduction in logistical times, and optimization of goods transportation strengthen the industrial competitiveness of Celaya and its surroundings.

Likewise, modern rail infrastructure promotes investment attraction, the development of industrial parks, and integration with national and international logistics corridors. Concurrently, the reduction of rail risks in residential areas impacts quality of life, urban sustainability, and territorial planning.

Complementary Rural Works with an Investment Exceeding 11 Million Pesos

In addition to the rail bypass, municipal authorities reported the completion of three rural infrastructure projects with an investment exceeding 11 million pesos. These interventions aim to improve connectivity, accessibility, and community development.

Among the works, the rehabilitation of the rural road to the community of Canoas in Rincón de Tamayo stands out, with a length of 2.4 kilometers and an average width of 5.5 meters. Additionally, access to the community of La Laja was rehabilitated, spanning 720 linear meters with an average width of 6 meters. Furthermore, Duraznos Street in Colonia Concepción, San Antonio Gallardo community, was paved, measuring 212 meters in length with an approximate vehicular width of 5 meters.
