San Luis Potosí Automotive Parts Production Grows, Nearing Top 5 National Ranking in 2026
San Luis Potosí's automotive parts production sees significant growth, positioning it as a key player in Mexico's industry and approaching a top 5 national ranking.
The production of automotive parts in San Luis Potosí is maintaining a positive trend at the start of 2026. According to figures from the National Autoparts Industry (INA), the state registered an annual growth of 6.7% during the first two months of the year, solidifying its position among the country’s leading automotive hubs. With these results, San Luis Potosí remained the sixth largest national producer of automotive parts, very close to entering the top 5 of the Mexican industry.
San Luis Potosí Automotive Parts Production Reaches $1.427 Billion
In this regard, between January and February 2026, automotive parts production in San Luis Potosí reached $1.427 billion. This figure represented 7.0% of the total national production. It is worth noting that the state closed 2025 with an accumulated value of $8.470 billion in automotive parts and components. This performance confirms the state’s relevance within the Bajío automotive corridor and the supply chains linked to the USMCA.
National Autoparts Industry Exceeds $20 Billion
At the national level, the Mexican automotive industry is also experiencing sustained growth. The INA reported that during the first two months of 2026, national production accumulated $20.267 billion. This represented an annual increase of 10.49%, and in February alone, production reached $10.252 billion, equivalent to an annual growth of 11.62%. Furthermore, the average monthly production of automotive parts in 2026 stood at $10.133 billion, surpassing the average of $9.917 billion recorded in 2025.
Demand from US Automakers Drives the Sector
One of the primary drivers of this growth has been the demand for automotive components from automakers located in the United States. The regionalization of supply chains and the strengthening of manufacturing in North America continue to boost Mexican automotive parts production, particularly in states within the Bajío and northern regions of the country.
Bajío Region Accounts for 35.9% of National Production
The Bajío region continues to be one of Mexico’s main automotive manufacturing centers. During the first two months of 2026, the region produced:
- $7.282 billion
- 35.9% national share
- 10.4% annual growth
Only the northern region ranked higher, concentrating:
- $8.901 billion
- 43.9% share
Meanwhile, the central region registered the highest relative dynamism by growing 12.09% annually.
Coahuila Leads, San Luis Potosí Remains in the Top 10
In the national ranking of automotive parts production, Coahuila maintained its leadership with $3.167 billion and a 15.6% share. It was followed by:
with $2.767 billion, and Nuevo León with $2.589 billion. Thus, the national top 10 was comprised of:
- Chihuahua
- Querétaro
- San Luis Potosí
- Puebla
- State of Mexico
- Aguascalientes
- Tamaulipas
Collectively, these entities accounted for 86.5% of all national automotive parts production.
Electrical Parts Lead Autoparts Manufacturing in Mexico
In terms of specialization, electrical parts continue to be the primary segment of the Mexican automotive industry. During the first two months of 2026, this category reached:
- $3.973 billion
- 19.6% share
- 12.82% annual growth
Other notable components included:
- Transmissions and clutches
- Seats, fabrics, and carpets
- Engine parts
- Gasoline engines
The latter segment registered one of the highest growths during the period, increasing by 46.68% annually. The top five component groups accounted for over half of all national automotive parts production.
