Jüsto to Reopen in Mexico: Will it Serve Guadalajara?
Digital supermarket Jüsto is reopening in Mexico under new ownership and significant investment. Will it resume operations in Guadalajara?
The 100% digital supermarket Jüsto is back in Mexico. Less than a month after announcing its definitive closure, the online food retail platform reappears in the market under new management, a multi-million dollar capital injection, and the promise of relaunching one of the most ambitious technological projects in Latin American retail.
Jüsto’s reopening follows the acquisition of its shares by OMNi, a technology company led by Moisés Chaves and Samuel Chaves, which took full control of the business after purchasing Jüsto USA. The operation includes a $100 million investment during the first year, aiming to reactivate operations, stabilize the financial structure, and restore the brand’s viability.

OMNi Takes Control of Jüsto with a Multi-Million Dollar Investment
In a statement, OMNi announced that the acquisition of Jüsto USA allows it to assume full control of the digital supermarket, marking the beginning of a new phase for the platform. The transaction was validated by HSBC and is supported by significant investors such as General Atlantic and FEMSA, as well as other funds that already had a stake in the company.
This financial backing was crucial to unlock the operation and proceed with the resumption of customer service, following weeks of uncertainty after the closure announcement made last December.
According to sources close to the operation, OMNi will also undertake a deep financial and administrative restructuring. The objective is to ensure the business’s viability and seek to restore the company’s market valuation, which at its peak was estimated at around one billion dollars.
As part of this transition, Ricardo Weder, Jüsto’s founder, is no longer involved in the operation, making OMNi the new and sole owner of the digital supermarket.
Jüsto Returns to Operate in Mexico, Its Key Market
The acquisition not only implies a change in shareholding but also the formal reopening of the business in Mexico. Jüsto was founded in the country in 2019 and since then made the Mexican market the core of its growth, before expanding to Peru and developing a project in Brazil.
According to the plan presented by OMNi, the official date for the restart of user service will be announced in the coming days. From that moment, the integration of Jüsto’s digital supermarket model into OMNi’s technological ecosystem will begin.
The relaunch strategy will focus on:
- User-centric experiences
- Empathetic design applied to everyday services
- Use of technology to optimize logistics and operations
- Rethinking the financial model
With this, OMNi aims to reposition Jüsto as a benchmark in food e-commerce in Latin America, a segment that has grown steadily but faces challenges in profitability and operational efficiency.
Will Jüsto Return to Guadalajara?
One of the most frequent questions following the reopening announcement is whether Jüsto will resume service in Guadalajara, one of the key cities in its original expansion plan.
In 2021, the digital supermarket launched direct operations in the Jalisco capital as part of its national strategy, which also included cities like Monterrey, Puebla, Tijuana, León, Mérida, and Cancun. However, in 2023, it ceased direct operations in Guadalajara, although the service continued indirectly through Rappi under the name Jüsto Super, prior to the complete closure.
As of now, OMNi has not officially confirmed whether Guadalajara will be one of the first cities in the relaunch. Nevertheless, sector sources consider the city remains strategic due to its population density, purchasing power, and adoption of digital services.
Currently, Jüsto’s confirmed coverage is concentrated in Mexico City, where the platform delivers orders from areas such as Satélite to El Pedregal, and from Cuauhtémoc to Santa Fe, with a presence in various points of the capital.
Who is OMNi, Jüsto’s New Owner?
OMNi defines itself as a technological ecosystem focused on people-centric solutions, with strategic pillars in education, technology, and inclusion. Its business model seeks to integrate digital tools into daily life and strengthen projects aimed at Latin American communities.
Among its objectives is to boost Latin America’s potential as an economic bloc through:

- Development of accessible technological solutions
- Focus on inclusion and social well-being
In this context, the acquisition of Jüsto aligns with OMNi’s vision to incorporate essential services—such as food shopping—into its ecosystem of technological solutions.
From Accelerated Growth to Closure… and Now to Return
Jüsto was one of the most disruptive e-commerce projects in Mexican retail. Since its launch in 2019, it bet on a 100% digital supermarket model, without physical stores and with a supply chain designed to eliminate intermediaries.
In its first months of operation, the company reported monthly growth exceeding 50%. During the COVID-19 pandemic, growth accelerated with triple-digit increases in orders and users, driven by high demand for online shopping.
Among the innovations that distinguished Jüsto were:
- Use of artificial intelligence to anticipate demand
- Logistics optimization for fast deliveries
- Guarantee of fresh products
- Promotion of Mexican producers
To strengthen its operations, the company even collaborated with Amazon in the distribution of fresh products in certain Mexico City postal codes, operating from its logistics center in Coyoacán. In 2021, Jüsto brought its model to Brazil as part of its international expansion strategy, solidifying its position as one of the most promising startups in the sector.
Despite having raised over $90 million in investment, Jüsto announced on Monday, December 15, 2025, that it would cease operations in Mexico, citing financial, operational, and strategic factors. At that time, the company reported that it would stop operating as of December 15, 2025, and assured that confirmed orders would be delivered or refunded. The announcement surprised the entrepreneurial and technological ecosystem, as it involved one of the most visible foodtech startups in Latin America.
Now, almost a month later, the story takes a turn with the arrival of OMNi and a new capital injection that seeks to restore the project’s viability.
Reactivation of Jobs and New Operational Phase
One of the most significant aspects of Jüsto’s relaunch is the reactivation of more than 500 employees, who will gradually rejoin various operational areas as activities resume.
This process will occur in parallel with the administrative and financial restructuring, designed to correct the imbalances that led to the closure and build a more sustainable operation.
OMNi has stated that the relaunch will not be a simple reopening but a reinvention of the model, adapted to current market conditions and the new demands of digital consumers.
