Volaris to Launch New Routes in 2026: Which Will Serve Jalisco?
Volaris announces 30 new routes by 2026, boosting Jalisco's connectivity and economic development, with Guadalajara and Puerto Vallarta as key hubs.
Volaris announced that by 2026, it will open 30 new national and international routes, with Jalisco being one of the beneficiary states. The low-cost airline is not only expanding its network but also reinforcing its role as a catalyst for tourism, business, and regional mobility. This growth translates into greater connectivity for key destinations, new opportunities for the tourism industry, and a more robust offering for travelers seeking accessible options. Within this expansion map, Jalisco emerges as a protagonist, both through new direct routes and its strategic function as a hub.
Guadalajara and Puerto Vallarta at the Center of Volaris’ Expansion
Within the package of new routes announced,
stands out for its direct and indirect connectivity, especially through Guadalajara and Puerto Vallarta, two of the country’s most dynamic airports. Among the routes that directly impact the state are: -Guadalajara – Saltillo, a new route set to commence operations on June 1, 2026 -Monterrey – Puerto Vallarta, strengthening the connection between two tourism and economic hubs -Puerto Vallarta – Morelia, expanding tourist flow between the Pacific and the Bajío–Western regions -New York (Newark) – Guadalajara, replacing operations from JFK Additionally, international routes that, while not departing from Jalisco, increase traffic to Guadalajara as a connection point, particularly from the United States and Central America. Currently, Volaris operates 230 routes across 73 airports, with 44 located in Mexico and 29 abroad, solidifying its position as the leading Mexican airline in terms of passengers transported.
New Guadalajara–Saltillo Route: An Air Bridge for Industry
One of the most significant announcements for Jalisco is the new Guadalajara–Saltillo route, which will begin operating on Monday, June 1, 2026, as part of the Vuela Fácil, Vuela Saltillo program. This daily connection will be operated with Airbus A320 aircraft, with the following schedules: -Guadalajara – Saltillo Departure: 6:55 PM | Arrival: 8:22 PM -Saltillo – Guadalajara Departure: 8:55 PM | Arrival: 10:25 PM The integration of Guadalajara, one of the country’s most important hubs, strengthens the recovery of Saltillo International Airport and complements its current network to AIFA and the upcoming service to Cancun. For the Saltillo metropolitan area and its industrial corridor, this route reduces travel times, enhances business connectivity, and expands travel options to the western part of the country.
Puerto Vallarta Gains Prominence as a Strategic Destination
In the Mexican Pacific, Puerto Vallarta reinforces its role as a key tourist destination within Volaris’ plan. The opening of new national routes includes: -Monterrey – Puerto Vallarta -Puerto Vallarta – Morelia
Jalisco, a Natural Hub for International Connectivity
Although several of the new routes depart from other states, Guadalajara benefits indirectly due to its role as a connection center. A key example is Volaris’ transfer of operations from JFK Airport to Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey. Effective July 1, 2025, Volaris will operate routes from Newark to: -Guadalajara -San Salvador, El Salvador This move aims to improve service for Mexican and Central American communities in the New York metropolitan area, particularly west of the Hudson River, where a robust low-cost offering to Mexico was previously unavailable.
More National and International Routes Boost Traffic to Jalisco
The growth of Volaris in other states also positively impacts Jalisco by generating greater passenger flow in connection. Among the most relevant announcements are:
Morelia Adds Eight New Routes
Volaris will increase its operations in Morelia with: -3 national routes: Mexicali, Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo, and Puerto Vallarta -5 international routes: Dallas-Fort Worth, Houston, San Antonio, Ontario, and Sacramento With this expansion, Volaris will operate 17 routes from Morelia, a city where it has transported over 7.7 million passengers since 2007.
San Luis Potosí Expands Its Network to Texas
The airline will open three new international routes to: -Dallas-Fort Worth -Houston -San Antonio With this expansion, Volaris will have the widest network from San Luis Potosí, strengthening connectivity with northern Mexico and the United States.
Monterrey Consolidates Position as Second Largest Operator
Starting in March, Volaris will open national routes from Monterrey to: -Bajío -Tuxtla Gutiérrez -Puerto Vallarta -Toluca And international routes to: -Denver -Miami -Houston -Dallas-Fort Worth This growth positions Monterrey as the second largest air operator for the airline.
Central America and the United States Strengthen the Network to Mexico
In Central America, Volaris will launch three new routes from San José, Costa Rica, to: -Tulum -Miami -Orlando These are in addition to existing connections to Guadalajara, Cancun, and Mexico City, reaching a total of eight routes from the Costa Rican capital. In the United States, the airline will open seven additional routes, including: -Los Angeles – Querétaro -Los Angeles – Tepic (subject to approval) -Ontario – Bajío -Ontario – Los Cabos -Ontario – Morelia -Oakland – Zacatecas -Oakland – Los Cabos These routes expand Volaris’ reach into key markets for tourism and Mexican communities abroad.
Promotion and Key Dates for Volaris Travelers in Jalisco
The new Volaris routes are already on sale and will progressively begin operations starting March 20, 2025. As an incentive, the airline launched a 70% discount promotion on ticket purchases, valid from February 13 to 16, representing a strategic opportunity for frequent travelers and business professionals. “This increase in national and international routes reaffirms our commitment to offering customers more accessible, comfortable, and safe travel options,” stated Holger Blankenstein, Executive Vice President of Volaris.
